We glorify the killers

My latest on

I continue my series of reflections on war and eternal peace.

We create heroes. We create idols.
We absorb their greatness from childhood without thinking about who these people really were.

Ironically, most of our past heroes are military men. They became great because of their martial exploits. They are written into the glorious history of our society through mass murder.

Many nations base their "national identity" on past military events. The glorification of murder shapes the ideology of an entire country. Yes, many wars are defensive, but I'm not talking about the types of wars; I'm talking about our cultural diseases.

I recognize the tragedy on which many of us base our ideals.

In my work, I want to draw attention to the enormous value war represents in popular culture and ideology in much of the world. And by this work, I hope that military figures and their enablers will one day disappear as a profession

I have often wondered how it is that everyone loves himself more than anyone else, but puts his confession about himself below someone else's.

so I will characterize this year. the time of the gold rush and frantic zeal for quick glory remained for me in the last year (2020). my main achievement was not numbers.

I allowed myself to let go of my commitment to becoming a star at all costs. I love my dream. but this year I was able to stop and clearly see that I am ALREADY happy.

my family is next to me. my wife. my son. my parents.
i have business that I love. my skills, my health and the huge world around me. i already have all of this.

I continue to write music. now it’s real, it comes from my heart, not from trends...
I have already achieved success.

What's about creating a lyrics?

There is no any algorithm or "railroad" along which this train will roll.

The lyrics for the last four tracks we recorded in St. Petersburg, were made right there, from scratch.

Right there I turned into a text what exactly I felt - and after a few hours this text was ready.
It was a super incredible experiment to be honest 🤠

Before that, I could write my lyrics for one song for a month(s). And this time, the words just poured from the inside out - cuz I just put myself in a hopeless situation: "Either write, or your trip across the country will forever remain useless."

I would call my approach phonetic - music has always been a priority for me. The lyrics can be cool and with deep meaning, but if it phonetically "doesn't play" with the music, I won't take it. I'll change it until they reach a balance. Text and voice are another instrument in my orchestra.

Now (after my experiment in St. P) I've come to the format when the text flows from the inside.

First, you catch the right mood, then tune into it, catch the atmosphere - and it goes by itself, you just have to find the words that fit these feelings.

Words are folded into phrases, phrases - into sentences, and sentences - into text blocks. And boom, here we go!
Well, all together they eventually returns to emotions. Which I convey through the lyrics.

But first, you tell me - what language does Brooklyn Hills sound the most harmonious in?

Southern deserts & friends

Babushka Jazz video was filmed near Volgograd and Volzhsky cities, Southern Russia.
⠀
The Mexican desert from the video is actually about 15-20 minutes from my home. Picturesque scorched places - is a steppe near a large artificial lake Liman, it was built special for factories — kinda "waste tank".
⠀
In total, about 14 people took part in the filming process.
"The Grandma" is my friend Dima , years ago he played bass guitar with me in the Sittin' Bull band. He's an energetic person with a great sense of humor and bright charisma.
When the idea to make just such a tough bearded grandmother came up, I made a decision instantly.
And, fortunately, he agreed when I offered him this adventure.

We found "the Capricious Grandson" by chance. We were looking for a very big guy for this role, then found the right person in Volgograd, but ... we didn't have time to contact him. The film crew said that they had found the perfect person!
That's how another Dima appeared in our video.
In a "normal" life, he's a showman and a media person.
Dima usually walks with a beard - he shaved especially for filming - and then, he was horrified by his appearance.

"The Mariachi" with trumpets are my old friends, the Volgograd based brass-band , a serious professional team of talented musicians.
⠀
The role of "el Diablo" was played by Sergei , a good friend of mine with whom we worked in a restaurant many years ago: I was a waiter, and he was a cook.
His textured appearance was perfect, Sergei was the first person I thought of when I was looking for a person to play El Diablo in our video.

And special thanks to KODO VIDEO ( ) - without them Babushka Jazz wouldn't have become what it has become. Honestly, I myself would never have been able to organize such a shoot.

Simple man

I think that we've finally ceased to be the simple people at the very dawn of globalization - about 12-15 years ago.
Today almost each of us is overgrown with kilometers of stereotypes and protective walls - in the world of social networks, you must be insured against ridicule and bullying on the Internet.

You almost HAVE to be like the majority - to not to fall out of the community. You have to stay within the limits to not to become an outcast.

The idea is that you have to keep many terms & conditions in your mind in order to stay within the approval of others.

It seems to me that this is a road to nowhere - because within this framework you have no opportunity to become exceptional.

And an exceptional person, IMO, is a person who lives according to his personal canons and foundations.

And, often, this person is simple and straightforward. He does not build illusions, does not live off the approval of others, and builds his world on his own.

He's not afraid to be simple. He's not afraid to look stupid.
I think that being such a person is happiness.

What’s the point of not living the life your own way and not chasing your dream?

God blessed this world. God blessed me to have the opportunity to live this life — deep and beautiful, forever meaningful and clear as the child’s tears.

To lose everything that wouldn’t mean anything in the end...

This is what will matter to me.
