Genius or madman? Or genius ánd madman. And what about all the artists, thinkers, academics and politicians he influenced, until today?
From the inception of Richard Wagner’s Total Work of Art on nothing in Western music, visual art, writing and thinking would be the same.
And how his legacy catapulted the invention of film.
As Leonard Bernstein named it in his Delights and dangers of ambiguity: “Tristan und Isolde was the very peak of ambiguity, after which music (and in fact art, and most of the thinking) could never be the same.”
Neil van der Linden, practicing musicologist and art historian, will dive into these topics and present them as an immersive experience, both covering the factual history and the emotional impact of the legacy of Richard Wagner (1813-1883).

Workshop on artists' books with Susanne Kriemann and Alexander Komarov with Abdulnasser Gharem.
Since the 1970s, artists' books have become both a complementary and independent art form. Over the decades they developed into a movement that plays with all formats such as possibilities of publishing and print-on-demand.
In the workshop we will look at iconic artists' books that have had a decisive impact on artistic photography, such as Ed Ruscha's "Every Building on the Sunset Strip" or Roni Horn's "Another Water".
In addition to historical examples, the workshop will focus on the flood of artists' books of the last decade. Here we will take a closer look at books like Batia Suter's "Parallel Encyclopedia", and at publishers like Roma-publications or Spector Books, including them in the research on artists' books with photography, thus going deeper and deeper into this world of sorting, forming, conceptualizing and assembling.
At the end of the workshop the participants will present the artist books they created.
The four-day workshop will be led by Susanne Kriemann and Aleksander Komarov with Abdulnasser Gharem at the Gharem Studio
