SI SKATEBOARDER WINS BRONZE AT PACIFIKA CUP
BY ELTON LONARATHA JNR
IN a remarkable showcase of skill and determination, Solomon Islands skateboarder Carlos Mavutu Adomea has captured the bronze medal at the prestigious Pacifika Cup, held on Saturday at the iconic Sugar Bowl Skate Park Mackay in Queensland, Australia.
This event, known as the Rumble on the Reef, attracted an elite lineup of competitors from across the Pacific, solidifying its status as a premier skateboarding competition.
Adomea's journey to the podium was nothing short of inspiring.
After finishing 8th in last year's competition, he returned with renewed vigor and a fierce determination to excel.
“It’s a great competition, and while it’s not that difficult, I felt a bit nervous during several runs, which affected my performance. If I had executed my tricks properly, I believe I could have secured silver or even gold,” he reflected, showcasing his competitive spirit and ambition.
Despite the pressure, Adomea maintained an optimistic outlook, stating, “Skateboarding is an open game; it’s anyone's game. I’m thrilled with my highest-scoring tricks and finishing in third place.”
His resilience and passion for the sport were evident throughout the competition, where he participated in a week of exhilarating skate demos that significantly contributed to his growth as an athlete.
In a heartfelt tribute, Adomea dedicated his achievements to God, expressing, “I dedicate every training session and competition to God, who has given me this dream and passion. I am truly blessed to have the unwavering support of my friends and family.”
He also extended his gratitude to Donny Fraser and his team, whose guidance has been instrumental in helping him realize his skateboarding aspirations.
“I wouldn’t change anything about this journey,” he concluded, highlighting his appreciation for the experiences that have shaped him.
In the final standings, Papua New Guinea's Josh O'Loughlin claimed the gold medal, while Fiji's William Sanday secured silver.
Adomea’s stellar performance not only earned him a well-deserved bronze but also marked a significant milestone for the Solomon Islands in the competitive skateboarding arena.
Adomea's podium finish this year stands as a testament to his dedication, hard work, and relentless pursuit of excellence, inspiring young athletes in the Solomon Islands and beyond to chase their dreams with passion and perseverance.
