How lovely to receive such kind words of thanks from one of our most prominent local businessmen Philip Miller MBE of Adventure Island. I'm a huge supporter of our local businesses, large and small here in #SouthendWestandLeigh and have brought Rishi Sunak, James Cleverly and many others to visit, and have invited Essex Chambers of Commerce members up to Westminster so that they are heard by government to help make Southend wealthier 💷💷💷

I've been humbled and honoured to work with Julie Taylor these last two years to help her campaign against knife crime. Together we've made huge changes to the law to ban zombie knives to make our streets safer and to protect our young people. The Knife Angel coming to Southend means a great deal to us all, none more so than those whose lives have been destroyed by knives.

👼Today I was there in our city centre to welcome the Knife Angel to Southend for the whole month of July, something I have fought hard for with our Police & Crime Commissioner to achieve. 💔It's a huge and impressive looking statue but it's way more than that. Today I saw people moved to tears as songs were sung and poems read out about the terrible tragedy that knife crime inflicts on our society and, of course, I am sure I was not the only one thinking of my incredible predecessor, Sir David, cruelly cut down in his prime by knife crime. I was also so pleased to see the brilliant anti-knife crime campaigner Julie Taylor honoured at the ceremony for her work with #theliamtaylorLegacy - RIP Fish. 🤝Together with Roger Hirst we are making sure that a whole package of measures come into force to help get knives off our streets - you can watch our short video here 👇👇👇

🦮Being an MP was not all about speaking up for my constituents in Westminster.
