Talking Business with Sami Jauhiainen, VP of Neste
Your next plane ride on Singapore Airlines or Scoot could be powered by used cooking oil! ✈
Finnish energy giant Neste operates the world’s largest refinery for #sustainable #aviation fuel (SAF) in #Singapore, in terms of capacity. Made from 100% renewable waste and residue oils and fats such as used cooking oil, SAF in its unblended form can reduce greenhouse gas emissions from flying by up to 80% when compared with conventional jet fuel.
After its first investment in Singapore in 2007, Neste established its APAC Innovation Center in 2023 to pursue innovation and R&D in renewable and circular solutions. Today, Neste employs more than 450 employees in Singapore. Working closely with local partners, it has established an integrated supply chain that links the refinery directly to Singapore's Changi Airport – with Singapore Airlines and Scoot now using Neste’s SAF produced in Singapore.
For Neste, the Singapore government’s commitment to tackling climate change, as seen through the Sustainable Air Hub Blueprint, plays a key role in driving demand for greener fuels. This contributes to the long-term, sustainable growth of the aviation sector, while creating good jobs for Singaporeans.
Watch to find out how Neste is shaping the future of air travel from Singapore.

Former IBM Chairman and CEO Ginni Rometty on Singapore
For former IBM Chairman and CEO Ginni Rometty, Singapore’s SkillsFuture SG initiative sends the message that regardless of age, we have to keep building, changing and growing our skills.
Ginni, a member of EDB’s International Advisory Council, praises Singapore’s “inclusive nature” and culture for the higher percentage of women working in tech here versus the global average. But ensuring that women serve on corporate boards is another challenge to resolve, she says, and to do that, there needs to be an effort at “the highest levels to keep women [in the workforce] – or help them get back into the workforce”. Watch the full video to hear more.
