A unique cybersecurity learning journey at Cisco Singapore!

With the support of the Cisco CX team in Singapore, in August we brought a group of Vivita members to Cisco's office exposing them to . Children managed to take a peek at what the office of a tech company is like, such the cool communication and collaboration tools to facilitate working across countries. They also went through an experience of how cyberattacks and cyber defense work in the real world, directly from the professionals themselves. They grabbed themselves a cool t-shirt and cisco cap too!

A big thanks to the Cisco CX team to be so game to do this fun project with us, to expose more children to . Special mention to Infocomm Media Development Authority of Singapore in introducing us to Cisco!

Thanks to our friend of Vivita, Cesar Jung-Harada, a few weeks ago a number of Vivinauts and their parents had an opportunity to participate in the preparation of an exhibit of a future ocean city at ArtScience Museum!

We made wallpaper glue, did paper marche on a steel structure, painted and sanded down the models. A fun and meaningful day building something big and real! The members had a glimpse of the behind-the-scenes of preparing for an exhibition, and had an opportunity to listen to Cesar sharing about his vision and designs.

Thanks to all the Vivinaut and parents who participate in this community project 😀 Go and take a look and see how it is like!

The exhibition "Cesar Jung-Harada: An Ocean City Imagined" started on 21 September and will be on until 27 October at ArtScience Museum! Check it out!

What’s a day at VIVITA like?

Children leading other children, children experimenting and playing with different materials. It’s a safe space where children feel empowered to be creative, are treated as equals, and can always count on returning to Vivistop Kampong Eunos as a place to test their ideas, to fail confidently & to try again and again 🫶🏼

Hello everyone! We have a very important announcement to make!

For the past 4 years, we've been building VIVIBOOM - a learning management system where our youths could tackle STEM/STEAM challenges, earn skill badges and build their digital project portfolio. This system has been used (and well tested) by youths in VIVITA Singapore and a few VIVITAs overseas.

After much interest from educators, we have decided to make VIVIBOOM available to the world for free. Now any school, educational institution or even individual teacher can sign up to get their students on board VIVIBOOM immediately. It is a private and closed system where teachers will be able to create custom badges and challenges for just their school students. All their students' projects and digital portfolios will remain in a secure, private environment unless explicitly shared on a public portfolio page.

Kickstarting our celebratory posts by first of all thanking the people who made this happen! As the saying goes - it takes a village to raise a child and we are so incredibly lucky to be supported by a network of incredible organisations and government bodies that made opening our Vivistop Kampong Eunos possible!

A special thank you to Minister Edwin Tong for gracing us with his presence at the event and identifying with our mission of empowering children and youth. We also deeply appreciate the support of the team from Singapore Land Authority - SLA who helped us to find our dream home here in Kampong Eunos. We also thank Infocomm Media Development Authority of Singapore in supporting our cause, and the generous contributions of Cisco for sharing in our vision and dream to empower children to create their own futures. 💛

How lucky we are to be supported so generously, and we can't wait to see how Vivistop Kampong Eunos will continue to grow and be a safe space with creative freedom for all children to experiment, make and create the future! 🚀

They assisted as facilitators with their generative AI knowledge to help equip the elderly with the fundamentals on how to employ gen AI in their daily lives – from creating itineraries for their trips, to drafting emails!

IT FINALLY HAPPENED!!!!!! 🚀🏡💛

Last Saturday, for the first time, we opened the doors of our new home and welcomed our Vivinauts home with a single mission in mind - WE HAD LESS THAN A DAY TO BUILD OUR ENTIRE TINKERING STUDIO. 🤯

Our Vivinauts, alongside their families, volunteers, and our crew, worked together with all our hearts and might. And guess what? WE DID IT!!!!!! In 7 hours, using our ever modular viviware panel and all our teamwork, we transformed a blank canvas into a fully furnished Tinkering Studio with tables, chairs, shelves, and carts.

Our Vivinauts were busy using drills, hammers, and organizing things everywhere by hand – and it made us so happy! Their hard work fully embodied the joy of doing & making which are seeds of what we hope to plant in this tinkering studio 🌱

So here's a heartfelt thank you to our incredible community, the driving force behind this special moment! You breathed life into our Tinkering Studio, and now that we've done it, what will you create here? 😉

During this workshop, our VIVINAUTs took part as volunteers to help share their digital skills in a Generative AI workshop. Much to the delight of many elderly who were fascinated by how knowledgeable about tech our VIVINAUTS were even at such a young age 🫶🏼

We love giving our VIVINAUTs a platform to serve the community with their skill sets and we are always looking for ways to tap on their skills to be changemakers. Volunteering their time and skills in these workshops is just one such medium we strive to provide them with. If you have a project you’d love to bring to the community, speak to us! We’d love to be a part of it 🥰

While we’ve been away, we still believe our influence and impact is best amplified when we share it with our community 💪🏼✨

🚀 Even though the doors of our VIVISTOP were closed, we continued our work with our monthly Meet&Make sessions that have been a huge hit with our adult makers! We have grown a curious community who is always looking forward to try their hand at different crafts 🥹

🚀 Have you seen us around in your schools? 🫣We are also active with our school programmes The students’ willingness to learn and think outside the box all while embracing the whole process has been a great joy to witness!

🚀 Partnering with IMDA’s Serve Pillar, Tech Saturdays have grown to become a platform for students to empower other children with the digital skills that they are passionate about. It’s been a rewarding process to see how our students & the children from the community learn from one another!

How has everyone been? Despite our silence… exciting things are always brewing and we’re so excited to share with you a slice of our joy and adventure the past few months!

🚀 With our VIVINAUTs, they constantly remind us of the joy of creating, ideating and playing through their different interest groups and even the VIVICircle. In the past few months, there has been no greater joy than when our VIVINAUTs gathered amongst themselves, shared and exchanged fresh ideas, co-create and learn together!

🚀 This workshop is for students between the age range of 11 to 15 years old.

🚀 Designers aren't inherently creative; they develop their design mindsets, like empathy and openness, to discover new possibilities.

🚀 This workshop aims to raise awareness of essential design mindsets and introduce hands-on idea generation techniques to empower children to problem-solve creatively.

🚀 Participants will be immersed in an intriguing scenario and asked to take on the roles of fictional characters to create solutions for a simple everyday task.

Spreading the spirit of Vivita and !

Last weekend, Vivita was invited to shared with a group of close to 200 students from various infocomm and media clubs about what we do, and in particular about the tech for good efforts that we and our members have done. Together with Hoi Leong, our own Vivinaut Kayden was also on stage!

Kayden shared his experience in conducting tech workshops for other children - and more importantly how through that paying forward what he had benefitted, and how he learned a lot through the process to teaching. We are so encouraged by his heart ❤️

🚀 What does your dream Vivistop look like? Join us on a collaborative adventure with local woodworking studio Roger&Sons to design wooden playscapes for our new space at Kampong Eunos!

🚀 Come aboard our 2-day bootcamp (Phase 1) where we
• Go on an exclusive tour of a local sawmill to learn about the processing of trees in Singapore
• Embark on an adventure of local playscapes
• Learn basic woodworking skills
• Design our dream play furniture!

🚀 Selected participants will then get to join us on our 4-day intensive designing sessions (Phase 2) to refine and prototype their ideas under the guidance of industry mentors. The final designs will be produced by Roger&Sons and the final pieces will be installed at our new Vivistop for the community to enjoy.

🚀 This programme is for VIVITA members only. Participants have to be able to commit for 2 full days for phase 1 (30th May - 10am - 3:30pm & 31st May - 10am -5pm) to sign up, and have to be able to commit for 4 days of phase 2 (6th - 9th June, 10am - 1pm) to get a chance to design the playscapes. Roger&Sons is a team of ethical makers and mavericks who craft fine furniture and thoughtful objects. Their work is driven by inquiry, and spans disciplines: furniture, industrial, and product design, as well as woodworking.
