24 節氣芒種大約是每年國曆六月六或七日、是典型的夏季節氣，它預告大家天氣要開始「炎熱」了。「芒種」的意思是：此時稻子已經結實成「種」，而吐穗結實的稻子榖粒上會長出細芒，所以才將這個節氣稱為「芒種」。

「芒種」時節也是農作物種植時間的分界點。到了這個時節，梅雨季節就要結束了，而天氣也會越來越熱，氣候越來越乾燥，大部分不適合夏日栽種的農作物的存活率、生長率相對降低。天氣將從梅雨季節的陰雨綿綿，轉變為夏日型的午後雷陣雨了。

雖然某些農作物的存活率會因為炎熱的日曬而降低，但「荷花」卻是在此時節生長得欣欣向榮的植物！可以在學校或是植物園裡看到嬌豔欲滴的荷花與翠綠的荷葉，這是芒種時節裡十分美麗的景象！

【節氣與諺語】

●四月芒種雨，五月無乾土，六月火燒埔：芒種日下雨便會連著下到 五月，即俗稱梅雨。

●五月龍船北：端午節前後還有吹北風的可能。

●芒種瘋鯊：鹿港一帶海域，芒種前後會出現鯊魚。

●芒種夏至，檨仔（芒果）落蒂：南部的熱帶水果芒果在芒種後上市。

●芒種蝶仔討無食：陰曆五月以後，百花花期均過，此時之蝴蝶已無花粉可採。
