On 20 July 2024, Woodleigh NPC held a Coffee with a Cop session with IMDA, Aljunied Community Centre and Paya Lebar Wellness centre. The residents enjoyed the friendly discussions with our officers where they were alerted to the latest scam advisories and took home a memento from the session! Our VSCC officers took the opportunity to share the volunteer scheme with the residents and shared crime prevention advisories with them, encouraging them to ACT against scams. Received a call from an unknown number and the caller claims to be someone you know? The caller asks you to guess his/her identity and asked you to save the new number? Subsequently he/she asks you an emergency loan, help to perform a banking transaction or install a third-party app to make restaurant reservation?
This is a Fake Friend Call Scam! ๐ก
Do these CHECK actions ๐:
โข Verify the callerโs identity by calling their last known number, contacting them via other means or meet up in person
โข Check with someone you trust, such as mutual friends, to confirm the identity of the caller
โข Only install apps from official app stores and do not click on links sent via text messages by someone you have not verified

In June 2024, through quick thinking and decisive follow-up actions, Mr Jason, Mr Saravanan and Mr Puvendren, who were stationed at Woodleigh Mall as security officers, located a male suspect for the commission of the offence of voyeurism.
Letters of appreciation were awarded to each of the three security officers for their invaluable assistance in supporting the Police during the incident.
Additionally, Police would like to share some steps you can take to keep yourself and all your loved ones safe from falling victims to voyeurism:
โ Be alert and attentive to your surroundings, especially when you are in a crowded and confined space.
โ If someone moves uncomfortable close to you (e.g. someone deliberately stands or sits close to you in a bus or MRT), move away if possible.
โ Consider investing in a shrill alarm for you and your loved ones as they can come in handy to sound for help during emergencies.

The Police take a serious view of these offences and will not hesitate to take action against individuals who may be involved in scams, and perpetrators will be dealt with in accordance with the law.
To avoid being an accomplice in these crimes, members of the public should always reject seemingly attractive money-making opportunities promising fast and easy pay-outs for the use of their Singpass accounts, bank accounts, or allow their personal bank accounts to be used to receive and transfer money for others. The Police would like to remind members of the public that individuals will be held accountable if they are found to be linked to such crimes.
