𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝗱𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗮𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴

Last week, the Norwegian Healthcare Investigation Board announced it would be revising its current guidelines regarding so-called "𝙜𝙚𝙣𝙙𝙚𝙧-𝙖𝙛𝙛𝙞𝙧𝙢𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙘𝙖𝙧𝙚" for minors 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗮𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗶𝘁 𝗻𝗼 𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗲 𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲-𝗯𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗱. The board also acknowledged that the growing number of teenage girls identifying as male post-puberty remains under-studied.

Under the proposed updated guidelines, the use of puberty blockers, cross-s*x hormones, and transition-related surgery would be restricted to research contexts and no longer provided in clinical settings. Norway joins Finland, Sweden, and the United Kingdom in introducing greater safeguarding for children. In the United States, eight states thus far have banned affirmative care for individuals under 18, with Tennessee being the latest to pass such legislation.

We hope the relevant Ministries in Singapore take cue of such reversal of policy and guidelines on 𝙜𝙚𝙣𝙙𝙚𝙧-𝙖𝙛𝙛𝙞𝙧𝙢𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙘𝙖𝙧𝙚 and review such 𝗻𝗼𝗻-𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲-𝗯𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗱 practices in our local context.

Teachers, Parents and Caregivers should also be made aware of the dangers of such 𝗻𝗼𝗻-𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲-𝗯𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗱 practices on our children and teenagers.

The risks and dangers of 𝗻𝗼𝗻-𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲-𝗯𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝙜𝙚𝙣𝙙𝙚𝙧-𝙖𝙛𝙛𝙞𝙧𝙢𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙘𝙖𝙧𝙚 practices are now more imminent.

𝗡𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗴𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗗𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲𝘀: 𝗖𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗳𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝗲𝘅𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗘𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗰𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗜𝘀𝗹𝗮𝗺

Over the past few weeks, a group of senior American theologians, preachers, lawyers, and activists came together to produce a comprehensive scholarly statement addressing Islam's position on matters related to s*xual ethics.

The document, entitled "Navigating Differences: Clarifying Sexual and Gender Ethics in Islam," serves as a clear and unambiguous articulation of Islam's stance on marriage, s*xual relations, and LGBTQ matters, amongst other things.

It also asserts the constitutional right of Muslims to uphold and promote our beliefs, free from prejudice or legal reprisal.

The list of signatories represents a cross section of the Muslim religious leadership, which is a testament to the unity of our community on this issue, masha'Allah.
