The origins of Kuih Lapis is, in fact, European. In the 17th century, the Dutch brought to Indonesia, which would become part of its East Indies later, their recipe for a layered cake commonly made in their homeland using a cylindrical spit. This evolved to become kueh lapis. The German baumkuchen is a close relative.
The cake may look deceptively simple but each one takes four to five hours to make, with each of its 18 layers tediously added on one by one. The cake is returned to the oven each time for the layers to be caramelised separately.
We used Premium butter and bake to the perfection.

How well do you know about pineapple tarts?
Do you know they are also known as "kuih tat nanas".
Creation of pineapple tarts was largely attributed to the Peranakans who were strongly influenced by the Portuguese settlers in Malaya, who in turn were well-known for their pastries and tarts. With the abundance of pineapples in the area, it was being turned into pineapple jam/paste. Combining the pastries and pineapple paste gave birth to the popular pineapple tarts today.
In Hokkien and Cantonese families, pineapple translates to “Ong Lai” which means “Prosperity Come” and to add, pineapple is golden in its rawest form, therefore giving these tarts to your loved ones signify the Gift of Gold and wishes of prosperity.
This is now a must have snack during CNY.
Ours are fragrant, buttery and with the right amount of sweetness and with the right touch that the pastry shouldn’t be too dry.
