Comment below if you think we need more empathy as humans or not 👇
‘Do not judge a book by its cover.’ A saying which I personally find very important to remember. As humans, we are trained to reach quick conclusions when meeting someone. We use quick thinking and judgment to see if someone has good or bad intentions. Sometimes, this goes well. However, we can also very much miss the mark and jump to conclusions that are not correct.
Because, while we can see someone’s behaviour, expressions and their interaction with us, there are many layers we cannot see. That person might deal with major inner struggles, has been through trauma or endures intrusive thoughts. It is important not to judge, but to find empathy and help wherever possible.
IMPORTANT SIDE NOTE: Having empathy for someone is important, but that does not mean people can a free ticket to hurt and damage someone else. Also, this does not mean that your boundaries should be crossed. Empathy might just help to understand the other person better.

Two clusters of brain cells compete to promote either the persistence or disappearance of traumatic memories, according to a new study conducted in mice. The findings could provide important insights into human conditions such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety disorders, and associated problems such as alcohol use disorder (AUD) that can arise from the persistence of traumatic memories.

Living with depression can give us a whole range of symptoms. Some are quite well known, such as low mood, sleep difficulties, and limited energy. Other symptoms are less well-known, or less talked about.
Our depression may bring symptoms that we find embarrassing. Because of the silence around them, we might feel as though we're the only people in the world to experience them. However the truth is many of us share the same symptoms - we just don't talk about them.

Here’s a small reminder if you’re currently experiencing anxiety 💛
I’d also like to add this:
Do not let anyone downplay or diminish what you are experiencing if you have an anxiety disorder.
There is no hierarchy to mental health.
The current trend to create said hierarchy is extremely disappointing. I think this may be in part because of frustration around the ongoing and much greater stigma around other mental health illnesses. This desperately needs to be addressed but, as with all things in life, we don’t need to pull others down in order to make progress.
I believe that because “anxious” is so frequently used as an adjective, the reality of anxiety disorders are largely misunderstood. So, although there may be less stigma, most people are completely unaware of what it really means or looks like.
Anxiety disorders can be all-consuming and destroy every area of your life. They are not an “easy” or “fashionable” mental illness. The years I spent with a severe anxiety disorder destroyed everything I knew about myself and shattered my life in to an unrecognisable state. I pray every day that it doesn’t return with such force.
If you’re in the dark depths of an anxiety disorder right now, please know it can and will get better. Please know you are understood and so many of us see you and the pain it causes. Sending you so, so much love.
