His son ordered this from us. Fond memories of baking his daughter’s 1st and many more birthday cakes came flooding back at the reconnection with the son. She is 12 years old now. Reminded us of how far we have come since the beginning of this cake journey and the love we have garnered in the interim.

All the artwork you see on the cake is carved in sugar.

Our 2023 contribution to the Sugar Art for Autism awareness collaboration( SA4A). The design
is inspired by the textile swatch created exclusively for SA4A by Michael Ryan Andolsek, an artist and fashion designer with autism.

Our cake design is based on an illustration by Michael Andolsek, a lovely fashion designer and an artist on the spectrum. In the past we have created a lot of cakes based on his designs. This time the color scheme we chose was gentler than the last few designs. While designing this cake , we decided to enhance the pattern by adding geometrical patterns, something we have rarely done before. We thank Michael Ryan Andolsek, Dina Nakad and Suzy Suada MK for giving us the opportunity to experiment with our creativity.

I have baked for this young lady for many years. Then I left the country and I come back to baking for her again. She just turned 18 and she celebrated her special day with a close friend. This cake was created for her special day.

There is a certain joy in honest creation. There is a certain joy in hearing from old clients. There is joy in the clarity with which they entrust you with their order. I am lucky to have that sweet clientele and that honest love for craft.
