About Hari Raya Puasa

Muslims around the world end their time of fasting with a joyful celebration. Traditionally, Malay families in Singapore don new clothes in the same hue -
men in 'baju Melayu' and the women in 'baju kurung'.

Their morning starts with a trip to the mosque for their prayers followed by the seeking of elders blessings. More visits are made to see relatives and friends, where home-cooked feasts await. If you're lucky enough to be invited to a Hari Raya meal, you'll find a wide variety of dishes ranging from beef rendang (braised meat cooked in coconut milk and spices) to sayur lodeh (vegetables cooked in coconut milk gravy) & even sambal (chilli paste) served alongside the fluffy white rice.

Desserts are not to be missed, ondeh-ondeh (chewy balls with gooey palm sugar centres) or putu piring (steamed rice cakes with sweet grated coconut).

Here’s wishing all of you :
Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri

Best Wishes,
MSAE Team

About Deepavali / Diwali
This is the festival of lights which marks the triumph of good over evil.
The festival gets its name from the row (avali) of clay lamps (deepa) that Indians light outside their homes to symbolize the inner light that protects from spiritual darkness.
This festival occurs on a no-moon night where firecrackers are lit and little clay lamp lights are placed at the entrances of the houses.

We would like to wish everyone a Happy Diwali:

Best Wishes,

Mid-Autumn Festival is one of China's traditional festivals, usually celebrated on the 15th day of the eighth lunar month (which falls in September on the Gregorian calendar).
The Mid-Autumn Festival carries a long history and rich cultural significance, encompassing several main reasons and meanings:

1. Celebration of Harvest: Taking place in the eighth month of the lunar calendar, which corresponds to autumn, the festival coincides with the season of harvest. People celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival to express gratitude for the bountiful harvest and to acknowledge the gifts of nature.

2. Family Reunion: Also known as the "Reunion Festival," the Mid-Autumn Festival symbolizes the gathering of family members. On this day, family members often return home to enjoy quality time together and share meals.

3. Moon Appreciation: On the night of the Mid-Autumn Festival, the moon is usually at its fullest and brightest, making it ideal for moon gazing. People gather outdoors or by windows to admire the beautiful moon, expressing their yearning for positive and beautiful things.

In conclusion, the Mid-Autumn Festival signifies respect for harvest, family, and traditional culture. We would like to send our wishes to our MSAE students!

History of Singapore’s National Day.
Our nation strived to attain its declaration of independence from the British during August 1963 and united with the Federation of Malaysia in September that same year.
However, having been led by strong leaders, Singapore left the federation union after two years.
9th August 1965, Singapore gained its sovereignty and Yusof bin Ishak was sworn in as the First President of Singapore.
In honour and recognition of our history, till date we have the image of our first President on the front of our dollar note.
This is the only public holiday where the nation celebrates always as one united people with a “bang”, our own parade at the floating bay.

Happy 58th Birthday Singapore!!!
