Narpani Pearavai with the support of Lee Kuan Yew Fund for Bilingualism is organizing TikTok தமிழா (Thamizha) – Tamil Rap competition for youths aged 13 to 30.

In line with the festive season, the theme for the Rap is “எல்லோரும் கொண்டாடுவோம்!”, “Let’s all celebrate!”. We cordially invite all eligible youths to participate in our TikTok தமிழா (Thamizha) – Tamil Rap competition.

Details of registration and submission are as follows:
• Registrations commences on 13 October 2023. Scan the QR code on the attached poster to register.
• After submitting the registration form, you may post your Rap on TikTok by 25 November 2023 (by 11.59pm).
• Pls remember to mention the unique hashtag when posting.

The Narpani Community Carnival 2023 was held at D’Marquee, Downtown East on Sunday, 16 July 2023. The event was the first mass event organised by the Narpani Pearavai since the pandemic and had reached out to about 4,000 residents. Mr Heng Swee Keat, Deputy Prime Minister and Coordinating Minister for Economic Policies as well as Dr Janil Puthucheary, Senior Minister of State for Communications and Information, and Health, and Adviser to Narpani Pearavai, had participated in the carnival to meet and mingle with residents. The carnival was organised in collaboration with 21 community partners and government agencies which aims to promote social bonding among the Indian community as well as with other Singaporeans. The partners supported with carnival booths activities, programmes and performances. With support from SINDA to encourage inclusivity, about 500 underprivileged residents were also invited to the carnival.

The highlight of the day was Narpani Pearavai’s attempt to set the Singapore Book of Records (SBOR) which had 395 participants perform the “Oyilattam” dance in collaboration with AK Theatre Limited. Oyilattam is an aesthetics communal dance form of South India that depicts grace and beauty. The steps can easily be picked up by both men and women, young and old. The Narpani Pearavai had met up with various dance representatives to conduct dance practices for volunteers and grassroots leaders, held at various community centres/clubs prior the event. The programme lasted the whole afternoon where participants could either visit ‘Wild Wild Wet’ for a splashing good time or stay in D’Marquee for cultural performances by community partners or Zee TV.

The People’s Association (PA) Indian Activity Executive Committees (IAECs) celebrated their 45th anniversary on 7 January 2023 at the Fairmont Ballroom at Raffles City Convention Centre. The anniversary celebration dinner, hosted by Indian Activity Executive Committees Council or Narpani Pearavai, was graced by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Lawrence Wong. Also in attendance were Transport Minister S Iswaran and Senior Minister of State for Communications and Information and Health, Dr Janil Puthucheary who are Advisers to Narpani Pearavai.

Called the Indian Cultural Group, the first IAEC was formed at the Kallang Community Centre in 1977 to promote Indian cultural heritage. Currently, there are 99 IAECs across Singapore with more than 2,000 volunteers. With the event themed “The Way Forward”, Narpani Pearavai’s objective was to inspire IAECs to continue to stay relevant, explore new possibilities and ideas to meet the changing needs of the community, deepen engagement with the Indian community and promote social integration with the greater Singapore community.

The event saw more than 1,000 people in attendance, including grassroots leaders and community partners to celebrate the past work and contributions of the IAEC volunteers in promoting social cohesion among Indian community as well as racial harmony with the wider Singapore community. The IAEC’s community partners from Singapore Indian Fine Arts Society (SIFAS), Soorya (Singapore), Singapore Telugu Samajam (STS) and many others had performed at the event, showcasing various Indian dance forms, and displaying the strong partnership between the IAECs and other Indian organisations.

The PA Narpani Indian Cultural Performance will be back for at Chingay 2023 - this time as part of a combined Inter-Cultural Contingent.

Chingay 2023 will be happening on Friday, 3 February 2023 and Saturday, 4 February 2023 at the F1 Pit Building.
