Ensemble Dissonance consists of well-established chamber musicians from Ljubljana who work in various chamber ensembles from string quartet to chamber ensemble and are members of the Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra and the RTV Slovenia Symphony Orchestra, professors at the Ljubljana Academy of Music and independent musical artists. The ensemble's mission is to recreate chamber music at the highest artistic level, and in addition, the ensemble promotes chamber music and contributes to its development in various ways: by commissioning new musical works, especially Slovenian ones, by collaborating with world-renowned artists, by collaborating with young composers and performers and by promoting the rich musical history of the city of Ljubljana. The founder and artistic director of Ensemble Dissonance is cellist Klemen Hvala, and the concertmasters of the ensemble are Janez Podlesek, Benjamin Ziervogel and Kana Matsui.
In this year's concert season, the ensemble is planning top artistic events in collaboration with internationally renowned domestic and foreign musicians and composers such as Lana Trotovšek, Nika Gorič, Jaka Mihelač, Lydia Rodriguez Fernandez, Mak Grgič, Vito Žuraj, Nina Šenk, Natalie Clein, Dmitri Sitkovetsky, Richard Tognetti, Satu Vänska, Joe Tawadros, Barnabas Kelemen, Gloria Campaner, Signum Saxophone Quartet, Christian Jost, Jonathan Stockhammer, Vicente Campos, Miguel Navarro, Vlatko Stefanovski, Vasko Atanasovski and other top musicians..
In addition to concerts in its own chamber cycle, the ensemble will perform a whole series of concerts in Slovenia and abroad. Ensemble will perform at the Maribor Festival, in Slovenj Gradec, Nova Gorica, Piran, Ptuj, the Slovenj Gradec Summer, Maribor, at the Winter Ljubljana Festival, at the Summer Ljubljana Festival and in Hungary, Italy and Germany.
The program orientations of the ensemble include the repertoire of all stylistic periods, from Baroque to contemporary musical art. The ensemble occasionally performs the repertoire of other musical genres, from ethnic music to jazz and progressive rock. The characteristic of Ensemble Dissonance's concert programs is inventiveness, boldness and the integration of musical content from different musical periods, styles and genres, as well as constant walking on the edge, because we musicians, gathered in the Ensemble Dissonance , are convinced that without deviation from the norms, there can be no progress, as claimed and justified by Frank Zappa.
