This weekend we celebrated our 7th year of marriage. It has been 7 amazing years; full of joy, laughter, learning, growing, babies, deployments, pandemics, vacations, etc... With all the changes in these 7 years a few things haven't changed. First our love for each other, we still love spending time with each other, love laughing together, and love supporting each other. Second we both still considering our wedding day to be the most fun we have ever had. We still reminisce on the food, the fun, our family and friends, the beautiful beach and our amazing wedding ceremony.

Encourage and Support Your Spouse 30/08/2022

So, the previous post was about the 5 most important topics I think couples should discuss before tying the knot. I also, attached an article that had been published in Bride’s magazine. The article provided 12 topics that should be discussed before marriage. One of my topics was missing and although Brides may have missed it, I think soon to be married and married couples should not miss out on this important discussion. What are your personal goals, your goals as an individual. Let’s keep it real, most of us don’t complete all of our personal goals by the time we marry. Most of us never accomplish all of our goals, like ever. The perfect job, the perfect family/work balance, running a marathon, getting that next degree, learning a new hobby, etc.… For a lot of us, we give up our personal goals our dreams because we feel that obtaining them could be a burden to our family. For many when this happens, we unconsciously created a resentment to our families, our spouses and to ourselves. Discussing your personal goals with your partner before marriage can help for two major reasons. When and if you decide to go for your goal, your partner isn’t blind sides, sometimes your goal may seem very drastic. If your partner is already aware that this was your personal goal, they can and should be more supportive of you accomplishing this goal. Second reason is you have someone who can remind you of what your goals were. Sometimes we get into a rut and forget all the things we wanted to accomplish. If your partner is aware of what you wanted to accomplish personally, they can help pull you out of your funk. The article below is amazing example of how discussing personal goals before marriage and loving and supporting your partner can help strengthen your marriage.

Encourage and Support Your Spouse All of us have areas in which we feel insecure, and that often hinders us from accomplishing positive things that we would like to do. The latent potential within your spouse may await your encouraging words.

12 Questions to Ask Your Partner Before Marriage 18/08/2022

The idea of marriage and the excitement of planning a wedding can sometimes be so blissful that we forget about the end goal, being married. You all have heard that marriage isn't easy and marriage takes sacrifice. It's true marriage isn't always easy and sometimes you will have to make sacrifices, but I believe having open communication and not shying from discussing difficult topics will make your marriage a little less difficult. My suggested top five topic to discuss prior to "Tying the Knot" are: finances, children (do you want them or not), personal goals, goals as a couple/goals in marriage, and in-laws. Discussing these topics before you get married and the topics mentioned in the below article, as well as working on open communication will help decrease some of the unnecessary difficulties in marriage.

12 Questions to Ask Your Partner Before Marriage It's important you cover these questions before marriage. Be sure to get answers before you tie the knot.
