Sierra Leone introduces HPV vaccine to protect girls from cervical cancer In a move to protect adolescent girls from cervical cancer, the Government of Sierra Leone today introduced the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) vaccine to the routine immunisation schedule and launched the start of a campaign to reach 153,991 girls with the vaccine.
The strategy for ELIMINATION of cervical cancer in SaLone was launched throughout the country today. It will include HPV vaccination of girls at age 10. Screening for early detection and treatment of cancerous lesions, and advanced care for cases that have progressed.
