Media-civil-military relationship!

To improve a conducive working environment for both members of the press and security sector in South Sudan, representatives from the police, army, Wildlife, and civil defense including national security attended a two-day workshop on strengthening security sector reforms in the country on May 25-26 2023.

The workshop was organized by the Union of Journalists of South Sudan through the support from the UNMISS rule of law division and UNESCO to provide media and participating agencies an opportunity to discuss best practices when it comes to media relations and security sector reforms.

During the two-day presentations, it was clear that the media and organized forces' relationships fizzle out or seem one-sided.

All agreed to ensure members of the security service comply with media relations policies.

Major General, L*l Ruai Koang, South Sudan People Defense Forces (SSPDF), the spokesman said the army is working to build an institutionalized perspective that depends on partnerships to equip SSPDF zeal in an epoch of professionalism.

South Sudan's aviation authority should regulate airline companies' operation procedures in Juba.

The market has been inflated by a poor aviation services.

South Sudan is the only country where an airline will tell you to be at the airport for check-in as early as 5:00 a.m. and by 7:30 a.m. One finds themselves queuing to do the check-in. After check-in, you will spend another two hours or more waiting to board a plane for departure.

All these airlines don't even give clear instructions on which gate to wait after as you pause for your boarding pass to be checked.

Worldwide or just to mention the neihboring states, airlines checking-in procedure is; one need to be at the airport by at least two hours before one's departure.

In Juba, it is a different story. You can be at the airport for nearly three hours or more before departure. These airline companies think it is normal. To me, it is a waste of time, because time is money!

Another case scenario is, commercial airlines will book you today and change your travel plan for another day without feeling remorseful.

The reason for these changes might be the fact that the plane could have been chartered by the government or business tycoons with more money than the passengers' airfares.

Where on earth can airline management cancel your flight without prior communication? But here in our country, these airlines are surprising us during a time of check-in.

Worse of all, they will not compensate your time. One day, one of these airlines operating in Juba will be sued.

This can be a headache and stressful flight experience for most domestic flights in the country.

I wish the South Sudan aviation authority would improve the management of all commercial airlines as well as its strategic management of the airport to meet the standard required.
