The number of people paying bribes in the places surveyed varied greatly, however. For example, only 0.2 percent of Japanese people had paid a bribe while a whopping 69 percent of Indians had.

As many as 41 percent of the Thais surveyed had paid a bride over the last year. To compare that to neighboring countries, 65 percent of Vietnamese respondents had paid a bribe, 40 percent of Cambodian and Burmese had, 32 percent of Malaysians had, 26 percent of Chinese had, and 23 percent of Indonesians had.

Thailand’s government has been attempting to crack down on bribery but many have said that they ignore high-ranking ministers and other officials that accept graft.

Police were reported as the most common people to ask for bribes. A little less than a third of people who had contact with a cop in the last year were forced to pay them a bribe, according to the survey.

The decline in New projects

24/12/2014

BANGKOK, 24 December 2014 (NNT) - The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has admitted that Thailand’s tourism revenue from foreign tourists dropped by 5% compared with 2013 due to the political crisis and economic slowdown this year.

TAT Governor Thawatchai Aranyik said this year’s revenue from foreign tourists was 1.15 trillion baht, slightly below the set target of 1.2 trillion baht. Apart from the political standoff at the beginning of the year, the sluggish economies of Thailand’s main markets such as Russia, Japan and Europe caused tourists to delay their trips to Thailand. However, the revenue from domestic tourists met the target of 700 billion baht, partly due to the government’s tax incentives and the “Returning Happiness to the People” program.

As for next year’s tourism outlook, the governor said he believed Thai tourism in 2015 would improve with expected revenue from foreign tourists of 1.35 trillion baht, increasing by 16%. The revenue from domestic tourists is projected at 800 billion baht, increasing by 14% compared to 2014.

As hotels and hotel brands each year amass large marketing budgets and battle online travel agencies for their share of bookings, the return on those marketing dollars spent online remains difficult to measure. Panelists at an Association of Travel Marketing Executives’ think tank on the 2013 media outlook and travel marketing forecast said online attribution models, technology and marketing spend measurement continue to lag

Thailand Elite again failing its target.........

08/07/2014

In a move to boost the economy, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) yesterday announced campaigns and marketing plans for next year with a revenue target of Bt2.2 trillion from local and international visitors.

TAT governor Thawatchai Arunyik said the authority expected up to 28.9 million foreign visitors next year - increasing this year's projection of about 26 million foreign tourists by 13 per cent - and hoped to boost this year's target of foreign-exchange revenue by 15 per cent to Bt1.4 trillion.

TAT is also hoping to encourage 148 million trips by local travellers next year, which should generate up to Bt800 billion in revenue. Next year's projection is increased by 9.5 per cent from this year's.

TAT has also lined up action plans and strategies for local and international markets under the long-running "Amazing Thailand" campaign. The agency is also preparing new tourism products to attract foreigners, such as "Thainess" and the "Thai way of living", in addition to promoting the country's natural beauty.

Of the Bt1.4 trillion expected to be earned from foreign visitors, Bt747 billion or 53.3 per cent is expected to come from Asia, followed by Bt650 billion or 46.5 per cent from Europe and the rest from other markets, especially the United States.

TAT is also setting up strategies to draw big spenders from second-tier cities in Europe such as Stuttgart and Munich in Germany and smaller cities in France. It is also eyeing alternative countries such as Morocco, Brazil, Chile, Poland, Hungary, Belgium and the Czech Republic.

"TAT will hold roadshows in these countries and will work with airlines and hotels. Our targets are high-spending visitors such as honeymooners and health-conscious tourists," Thawatchai said.

A charter airline will begin operating direct flights between Poland and Krabi in November, while flights from Scandinavia - which have been cut down in number - are expected to rebound this high season.
