o security, their meager rice stores would be stolen when they went off to school. The girls had many problems that were easily fixed with a few U.S. dollars and some ingenuity. But, the bigger picture presented questions such as WHY are these girls here? WHY can’t they move to a safer place? HOW can these girls concentrate in school when they are hungry and afraid? Jane and Patty made a promise to the girls of Doi Luang that they would not forget them. And, that they would personally try to help them improve their situation. Each girl had a tragic story to tell. Parents were dead due to AIDS or perhaps, in jail because of drugs. Some children just came from families that were so large that there wasn’t enough room or food for them, and they were sent away. These girls would be the prime targets of s*x traffickers. Patty and Jane returned to the USA and returned with a camera. A documentary film was made to record the girls’ stories and to show the stark conditions of life in the villages around Doi Luang. The movie also showed the hope that those girls have for a better life. They were a small group but, they represented thousands of other girls living in poverty and trying to avoid being trafficked. Call it “do-it-yourself humanitarian aid”, but, that’s what Patty and Jane decided to do. They created this non-profit and have dedicated their time and talent to give these special kids an education, a better life, and the ability to “pay it forward”.
