We had a fruitful discussion on how to strengthen relations between Poland and Abia State, especially in the areas of agriculture, mining, education and culture.\n\nI was delighted to learn that Poland is interested in partnering with us to develop our various sectors and create more opportunities for our people. 🚨 Gov. Alex Otti of Abia State, has finally opened up on why he is still operating from his private residence six months after assuming office. The Governor who spoke on the heels of an online publication that he abandoned multi-million Naira Abia New Government House, said he preferred operating from his private house to save cost instead of lavishing public funds to renovate the Governor’s lodge. Describing the publication as mischievous and misleading, Otti urged members of the public to disregard the said report. He explained that he decided to sacrifice his personal comfort so as to be able to attend to urgent needs of the state with positive impacts on the masses. Otti who spoke through his Chief Press Secretary, Kazie Uko, lamented the present condition of both the Old and New Government Houses which he said “require serious funds” to be put in order. He regretted that the New Governor’s lodge commissioned by the immediate-past Governor Okezie Ikpeazu at the eve of his handover day, was yet to be completed. Conducting journalists round the facility at Ogurube Layout, it was discovered that only the ground floor of the two -storey building that had furniture and few air-conditioner units. The remaining floors had no furnishings nor any electric installations including fans and other fittings. It was also observed that the lifts to the building are yet to be installed while electrical work is yet to be completed. During the tour, it was also observed that part of the fence demarcating the Governor’s lodge and the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs complex, had collapsed. Some workers were seen rebuilding the collapsed wall. Addressing newsmen at the site, the Governor’s CPS expressed disappointment that the building was hurriedly commissioned by the past administration without completion. . .

Peter mbah of Enugu State signed into law, the Enugu State Electricity Bill.
This is a major step towards the growth of our economy and making Enugu state the ideal destination for investment, business, tourism, and living.

Since electricity is now on the concurrent list, this Law will enable us to play in all the value chain of the electricity industry.

It will ensure that Enugu State has her own electricity market, to be able to function in the generation, transmission, and distribution segments of the market, because without regular power supply, industry or private sector investment would not thrive.

My administration's goal to grow Enugu State’s economy from $4.4 billion to $30 billion would translate to a pipe dream without adequate and stable power supply, hence the need for the Electricity Law.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board(JAMB) has said it would withdraw the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination(UTME) result of Miss Ejikeme Joy Mmesoma for parading a fake score.

A statement released by the board's Head of Public Affairs and Protocol, Fabian Benjamin, on Sunday July 2, says Mmesoma scored 249 in the examination as against the 362 she is parading.

The organisation said it would prosecute Miss Ejikeme for tampering with its result. It added that Miss Ejikeme was offered a N3 million scholarship by founder of Innoson motors, Innocent Chukwuma for scoring 362 in the 2023 UTME.

The statement reads “The attention of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board(JAMB) has been drawn to several publications in both print and online media celebrating certain candidates for being high scorers in the 2023 UTME.

The Board is constrained to set the records straight and wishes to state unequivocally that many of the results which many of these candidates are parading are fake.

In many instances, some of these candidates had actually obtained far lower scores than they are claiming and had used some funny software packages to manipulate their results to deceive unsuspecting members of the public.

The most pathetic of them all is the case of Miss Ejikeme Joy Mmesoma, who claimed to have scored 362 in the 2023 UTME and was awarded a N3m scholarship by Chief (Dr.) Innocent Chukwuma.

She was even set to be honoured by the Anambra State Government when one of its top officials put a call through to JAMB to confirm her claim only for the Board to reveal that Miss Ejikeme Joy Mmesoma had actually scored 249 and not 362 she claimed.

She had manipulated her UTME result to deceive the public to fraudulently obtain scholarship and other recognition.

Remembering Dr. Francis Akanu Ibiam

Dr. Francis Akanu Ibiam KCMG KBE was born on November 29, 1906.
He was a distinguished medical missionary and was appointed Governor of the Eastern Region of Nigeria from December 1960 until January 1966 during the Nigerian First Republic.
He was conferred with a knighthood by Queen Elizabeth ll in Enugu, in 1956.

He later dropped his English name "Francis" and returned his knighthood to Queen Elizabeth II in protest against UK's involvement in the Nigeria-Biafra Civil War in 1969.

He died on July 1st 1995.

The Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, the Akanu Ibiam Federal Polytechnic, Unwana, Ebonyi State, and the Francis Akanu Ibiam stadium University of Nigeria, Nsukka are named after him.
