Georgios Marinakis

I want to thank Mantis Savvidis who recently started playing with my Marinakis Greek Bouzouki Strings!

Mantis (Adamantios) Savvidis was born on September 23, 1984 in Veria and grew up in Alexandria Imathia. He comes from a family of musicians. His father Stavros Savvidis is a renowned singer in Pontian music and his grandfather, Mantis Savvidis, a well-known lyricist in Pontian tradition.

At the age of 6, he began studying classical violin and after 8 years of classical study and higher theory, he transitioned into playing the bouzouki by learning from Christos Lazaridis. In 2001 at the “AKRITAS PALACE” entertainment center in Veria Imathia he plays for the first with Bouzouki Masters Tasos Skarlatos, Dimitris Reveltsis, Yiannis Koutoukller, and Dimitris Serraisos.

In 2009 he started collaborating with great pop singer Dimitris Kontolazos, which paved his way in collaborating with some of the most renowned Greek music artists such as Themis Adamantides, Natasa Theodoridou, Antipa, Katipita, Constantine and Matthaios Tsachouridis, Christos Pazis, Stathis Xeno, Petro Imbrio, Rose, Evita Seretis, Giorgos Daskoulidis, Spyros Spyrakos, Stathis Angelopoulos, Evdokia, Sofia Vossi, Sabrina, Niko Romano, and Eleni Karousaki.

I want to thank Giorgos Georgopoulos who recently started playing with my Marinakis Greek Bouzouki Strings!

Giorgos Georgopoulos, known as “the bouzouki of the 21st century” was born in 1983 in Athens and moved to Kalamata at his 8 years of age. Soon after, he started his first music lessons and furthered his musical studies at the department of Traditional Music in Arta, Greece!

He has pursued a career as a soloist, performing concerts all over the world including Croatia, Germany, Sweden, China, Austria, and many many more! He has collaborated with great music performers such as Manolis Mitsias, Dimitris Basis, Kostas Makedonas, Gerasimos Andreatos, and Vasilis Lekkas. His most significant appearance was at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece in collaboration with Giannis Polikandriotis!

Giorgos Georgopoulos plays Balkan music combined with Greek music. However, Django Reinhrdt, Astor Piazzolla, and Al de Meola are always an essential part of his performances since demonstration of flawless technical interpretation is considered, by him, a must!

Thought to share an interesting fact!!!! Did you know who invented the eight string bouzouki? Virtuoso Manolis Chiotis invented it in the 1960s while he was assisting Zozef!!

They transformed the six string bouzouki that was brought to Greece by immigrants from Asia Minor around the 1900s. The instrunment during that time was adapted to more Western styles of music!!!

Driven by his long-standing devotion to music and rich influences as a past chanter at the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople he unravels memorable musical compositions, predominantly instrumental works, that stimulate lasting impressions of Turkey's multicultural heritage.

Mr. Marinakis persistence and connection to the beautiful sound of the oud opened the gates to perform alongside music masters such as Ruhi Ayangil, Özer Özel, Göskel Baktagir, Yurdal Tokcan and Nedim Nalbantoğlu. Today, he is a recognized musician who has appeared in many TV and Radio talk shows as well as the BBC. He has also contributed to large scale recordings and musical performances in Europe especially in Turkey, Greece and Cyprus including world famous festivals like the Yorgo Bacano Oud Festival.

In 2019 Mr. Marinakis completed 7 compositions that represent Turkey on “RFI” the International French Radio and was invited by the Turkish Ministry of Culture to perform for Turkish president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and former president of Greece, Alexis Tsipras, at the Turkish Presidential Complex. Currently, he offers music instruction for the World Music Program “BAU IDEA” at Bahcesehir University in Istanbul, Turkey and is working closely with a team of dedicated professionals to expand upon his luthier company “Galata Luthiers”.
