Here's a quick-ish clip of me, Roxanne, catching a Carite (Spanish Mackerel) with the traditional hand caster!!! . This type of fishing is called A la Vie (some say Vive), and requires bait which is still alive. No sinker is used and the line typically stays around the surface of the water (or where the bait swims). It requires a different level of skill and can leave you heartbroken when you lose a big one! 😅 . Fish caught via this method, verses a net, helps to guarantee maximum freshness, as the fish goes straight into the ice and is not dead underwater for hours before icing. .
