PRESSURE ALL AROUND Express photojournalist Jermaine Cruickshank was at the ANR Robinson International in Tobago this afternoon, suffering along with the other island visitors to get a flight back to Trinidad after the suspension on Monday of the airbridge while Hurricane Beryl passed near the island.

NOT EVEN CLOSE A day after Hurricane Beryl touched Tobago, visitors who were stuck on the island have arrived in the capital of Scarborough and joined the line of vehicles trying to get into the ferry terminal, to be taken to Trinidad. The T&T Inter-Island Transportation Company has advised that attempts are being made to transport all stranded passengers on a first-come, first serve basis, with three sailings today, and three on Wednesday.

THE WORST IS BEHIND US The Hurricane Warning for Tobago has been downgraded to a Tropical Storm Warning. At 11 am, Hurricane Beryl was located at 12.4N latitude, 61.3 W longitude. The potential for hurricane force winds has decreased significantly as Hurricane Beryl moves away from the island.

RED ALERT IN TOBAGO Hurricane Warning #8 for Tobago - RED LEVEL Updated Issuance time #13 (local time) Mon, Jul 01, 2024 05:07 AM A Hurricane Warning is in effect for Tobago. This means there is a higher potential for hurricane conditions, including sustained winds in excess of 118 km/h, within the warning area, in this case within the next 7 hours. As of 5 am, Hurricane Beryl was located near 11.7°N 59.9°W, approximately 93km northeast of Tobago, moving west near 31 km/h. Periods of showers and gusty winds have been observed and further deterioration is expected with gusts in excess of 70km/h. There is a high chance (90%) of hazardous seas with large, battering waves. Mariners should expect wave heights to increase significantly, posing a danger to small craft, coastal and offshore activities. Strong currents and choppy seas will make navigation hazardous. The next update will be at 8 am (Monday 01st July 2024) or earlier if necessary. Take immediate actions to protect their lives, livelihoods, and property. Shelter in place or evacuate to a safe location if your home is unsafe or vulnerable to flooding or wind damage. Secure food, water and medicine for at least 7 days in waterproof containers. Outdoor drains should be clear and loose objects secured by now. Sandbags should be near all entrances to your home.
