# # Funding Gaps for SIDS
- SIDS control 30% of global oceans** but face major challenges in accessing funds for innovation and adaptation to their unique sustainable development challenges[
- In the Caribbean, 38% of climate finance flows were concessional loans and 62% grants, while in the Atlantic and Indian Oceans nearly 75% were loans and 25% grants

# # Barriers to Accessing Climate Finance
- Application processes for concessional financing must be improved and simplified, as the time and labor costs often prevent SIDS from applying for available funds

The AR6 report emphasizes the urgent need for equitable and sustainable ocean governance and development, with a dedicated framework to close the blue funding gap for SIDS. Targeted approaches like a Blue Innovation and Impact Fund are proposed to empower local communities in SIDS and promote south-south cooperation in advancing a sustainable blue economy
