But unprecedented recent natural disasters are indicators that Earth is being pushed to its Planetary Boundary, beyond which is unimaginable. Our Planet has been in Holocene "a safe and just place for humanity to thrive" for the past 11700 years; it is our responsibility from the smallest child to the biggest multinational corporation to do our bit to reduce our environmental impact every day.

Allow me to introduce myself Coco Velvet International]

I am Christopher Anthony Nathan, born in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad. Once I completed high school I started working in the fashion and modeling industries first as a fashion model then I became a fashion director and fashion education specialist.

In 1984 I started work at BWIA West Indies Airways Corporation as a flight attendant, I was promoted to Purser/Cabin Crew Officer in 1994 and in 1997 BWIA seconded me to work with Air Alfa Turkish Airlines as a flight service manager. From bases in Istanbul and Ankara I managed Air Alfa flights to the Mediterranean, North Africa and the Middle East.

Once my contract period with Air Alfa ended I returned to Trinidad and launched Coco Velvet International] a Fashion & Model Management company based in Woodbrook, Port-of-Spain. Our core business is to discover, develop and export fashion models to the world's fashion capitals. Our models have worked for some of the most prestigious fashion brands including

Once BWIA was dissolved by TT government I was engaged by the University of Trinidad and Tobago in 2006 to prepare a tertiary level fashion curricula and set up its Caribbean Academy of Fashion & Design Once the fashion academy was approved I was offered the Programme Administrator position at its Design & Creativity Campus in Port-of-Spain, I exited UTT in 2012.

My other passion has always been architecture, interior and landscape design so it gives me immense pleasure to finally launch Tobago Landscape Design LLC

A rare daylight sighting of a Giant Leatherback Sea Turtle, returning to the depths of the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Grande Riviere Bay

Turtle Season runs from March 1st to August 31st every year. Thousands of curious tourists from across the globe have traveled to Trinidad's Northern Coast to witness this miracle of nature. Grande Riviere beach, at just one kilometer in length is recognized as the 2nd largest nesting site for Giant Leatherback Sea Turtle nesting in the world, following a beach in French Guyana, South America.

This overturned shipwreck has been lying on Grande Riviere beach for many years, providing artistic inspiration for many fine artists and textiles designers in Trinidad and Tobago due to its amazing colour pallet

We renovated Stingrays Ocean Beachhouse in March, adding two more guest suites overlooking the bay, a concrete patio platform and a 20ft floating deck to allow guests to view the Giant Leatherback Sea Turtles during nesting season

The rooftop garden from our Grande Riviere beachhouse project in 2020

Our featured palm today is the Cyrtostachys renda more commonly called Lipstick Palm or Red-stem Palm from the Arecaceae family. Native to Sumatra, Borneo, Malaysia and Thailand it flourishes tropical islands because it loves our abundant sunshine. Mature palms can grow to over 10M.

Every fine tropical garden should include a cluster or two of these majestic palms. Juxtaposed against a white wall for dramatic effect, nestled in it's own island in the middle of a pool or clustered to border a driveway they stand out amongst green foliage and expansive lawns.

Plant Care:
Grow in moist, fertile, well-drained soil, preferably in open sunlight but these exotic palms will also grow well in partial shade or indoors provided sufficient daily sunlight is available. Water freely every 2-3 days and apply a balanced liquid fertilizer monthly.

Villa Bella Luna sul Marre on Salybia Beach was one of my first landscape design projects in 2014. Bluestone was quarried from the Aripo Hills on Trinidad's North Coast, smashed to create the stone walls and Gazebo. A variety of tropical palms fringed the outdoor dining area.
