Passagemaker
The ongoing explorations of Robert Beebe's historic Yacht Passagemaker
Due to the unexpected passing of Peter Quentrall-Thomas in December 2019, we are hopingto sell Passagemaker to someone who hopefully will love her as much as Daddy did. If anyone is interested or has questions, please message me, Abigail (his daughter) at [email protected].
Out cruising on Passagemaker with friends and guests. Missing in the photos are our two resident fishing guys Kevin and Gregory who enjoy showing guests how to catch little fish and throw them back. Their record is 100 fish in one day on Passagemakeer
Today is the 11th Anniversary of my love affair with Passagemaker. We have had a wonderful time together, cruising to Cuba, Mexico, Panama and back. Then spending a year in the Amazon River before sailing across the Atlantic to explore Croatia. I couldn't have done it without Louise by my side.
Now Passagemaker is ready for more adventures as she is running even sweeter than she did when I first met her.
Who knows where we will go next.
Took Passagemaker with some good friends down to Monos Island on Sunday. Thanks to Sita for the photos and to Philip for the info on cotton growing. Imagine they grew over 1 million pounds of cotton on the island in 1801
Here is Passagemaker's new stainless steel boarding ladder which replaces the 55 year old bronze one that had finally started to come apart. The new ladder was completely made and fitted in Chaguaramas in Trinidad. The teak treads were a gift from "Big Mike" Perrin.
Check out Passagemaker's refurbished deck and aft roof (now know as "Brian's Roof" after he test loaded it and came straight through the original roof) This time we used two 1.2" layers of PVC with plenty of fibre glass so it is really solid
Nearly ready to launch Passagemaker
We removed all the old paint from Passagemaker's top side and found her teak hull in perfect condition. I'm almost tempted to varnish her !!
More members of the Passagemake Support Team came on Wednesday 19th June, a public holiday, to apply the anti-fouling paint to Passagemaker to deter the dreaded Toredo Boring worms, the same worms that would eat the English oak that warships of old were made of.
Winston Siriram, Roll Baboram, Philip Tompset and yours truly organizing painting materials and Guyanese rum to ensure a great job
So how many of you have a great dentist who ropes his kids in to pressure wash Passagemaker's hull on a public holiday. Many thanks Nathan and family
The last of the Passagemaker Cruise crew disembark after having caught a record 100 small fish in Scotland Bay
We have just had the biggest crane in the Caribbean loading giant pipes onto a work boat for the new Guyana oil fields. The pipes will be used to store the oil offshore before it is put in ships and exported. No oil will come ashore. The big crane can life 400 tons straight up. It takes a week to assemble and another week to take apart, often for a lifting exercise that takes just a day. The crane is so big it has wheels to the back with counterweights on. See how it dwarfs the smaller crane which is need to lift the parts for the big crane. Both cranes are owned by a Trinidadian firm. All this within a few hundred feet of Passagemaker!
Please note my new home number and the main number for the Amazon Lodge is 1-868-233-9026.
The old number 1-868-662-7683 is no longer in service.
Took a trip out yesterday to see the giant oil rigs moored in the Gulf Of Paria
When your batteries keep running down … what do you look for? How about a short piece of electrical insulation tape that had fallen into the bilges and managed to neatly wrap itself around the intake of the maintenance bilge pump leaving only a tiny gap. Result .. the bilge pump was running virtually 24/7. A bit like leaving the side lights on in your car.
We ended 2018 doing what we hope to do in 2019 .. liming on Passagemaker with friends Down The Islands DDI
Went out on Passagemaker on 2018/2019 New Years eve with friends and guests for a BBQ and to watch the fireworks off the coast of Port of Spain. Totally amazing. Thanks to Vashti Maharaj for the pictures.
Thanks to Jaime and Abi for bringing down a spare inverter for Passagemaker from the US. I can't imagine life without 110 volts on a boat because then you can use regular appliances. Note the Amazon Lodge cat "Minkey" HAD to get in the picture as well.
Today, 10th October 2018 is ten years since I bought Passagemaker. What a boat. All round the Caribbean, all the way up the Amazon River and back and across the Atlantic and around the Mediterranean and back .. and she is running better than ever. But the day must come when I have to find a good home for her. Write to me [email protected] if you are interested in this amazing historic vessel.

OK... so your are headed home and all your batteries fail. And its night time. What do you do to let outher ships see you? Why clamp a torch in the vice/rigging to shine on some part of your superstructure.
So my grandsons came to stay. First time on Passagemaker. But coming from Chicago they found it so 'warm" they decided to sleep on deck.
Check out Coco our boat dog in her life jacket keeping an eye on them
Peter arrived safely at Parika on the Essequibo River, Guyana, at 4pm this afternoon
I'm sure you know the feeling when you spend hours making a really strong alternator mount for a different make of alternator and then when you crank up your big Ford the alternator produces zero juice.... Grrrrrrrrr
