Classes conducted on CSEC and CAPE biology can be adjusted according to your schedule. Sessions start at $50 an hour.

Homeostasis is a state of balance within the body such as pH, temperature and blood glucose levels. It involves receptors, effector, signals, set points and negative feedback.
Negative feedback- triggers or output stops when the set point is achieved.

Positive feedback- variable is intensified.
Positive feedback is useful during childbirth as the pituitary gland secretes oxytocin which stimulates contractions that release prostaglandins which further increases oxytocin secretion.

Moving from CSEC to CAPE may be a challenge but attaining atleast 4 CAPE subjects can open many doors for your future profession such as a doctor, pharmacist, coast guard(defense force) etc. Attaining 5 CSEC subjects can aid in your pursuit of a tertiary education or trade.

Why are there more chloroplasts in the palisade mesophyll than the spongy mesophyll?
Chloroplasts are organelles found within plant cells that are used to produce glucose via photosynthesis by using carbon dioxide and water via the equation:
6CO2 + 6H2O----->C6H12O6 + 6O2
The palisade mesophyll has more chloroplasts because it is closer to the surface of the leaf and as such will be able to access more sunlight than the spongy mesophyll to conduct the process of photosynthesis.
It is necessary to know all the parts of the leaf and relate their structure to their function.

A question from the paper 2 January 2021 CXC CSEC examination.
Enzymes are a biological catalysts because (1st reason *biological*)it consists of complex proteins made by our bodies that aid in increasing the rate of a chemical reaction within the body (2nd reason *catalyst*) and it affects the rate of these chemical reactions without being consumed during the process of the reaction.

*A little more on Enzymes* they are naturally produced in our body and are able to function well when there is an optimum pH and temperature. In the digestive system:Pepsin aids in the digestion of proteins it is produced by gastric glands and secreted into the stomach which has a low or acidic pH whereas lipase aids in the breakdown of fats, it is produced by the pancreas and secreted into the small intestine which has a basic pH. Placing an enzyme in a pH which is too acidic or basic and as such not their optimum pH levels can cause the enzyme not to function properly and affect its ability to catalyse the reaction by causthe proteins in the enzyme to become denatured. As such, you will not find the enzyme lipase in the stomach.
Enzymes aid in a variety of important functions (to be discussed in tutorial) Example The enzyme Amylase is found in saliva(produced by salivary glands in this instance) and this aids in the conversion of complex sugars to simple sugars i.e. starch to glucose. Glucose is used in the process of respiration to generate energy in the form of ATP for the body via the enzyme ATPases.
