Organized by EdUnite Consultancy in collaboration with the NTA political party, Charrans Bookstore, Scribbles and Quills, and No Youths Left Behind organization, the "Trini Youths Read" initiative aims to foster a culture of reading and literacy, particularly among the younger generation in Trinidad and Tobago.

The genesis of this initiative stems from EdUnite's recognition of the alarming decline in youth reading and literacy, significantly impacting their abilities in reading, writing, and effective communication. The aim is to empower and liberate youths, recognizing that literacy enhances self-esteem and improves overall quality of life.

Its primary focus is nurturing a genuine affinity for books and knowledge. The initiative's core mission is to distribute educational packages that include storybooks, reading materials, creative items, and stationery to children across four hospitals in Trinidad and Tobago—Mount Hope, Port of Spain, Arima, and Sangre Grande on the 22nd of December 2023.

The initiative acknowledges the challenges faced by children in poverty-stricken homes with limited resources, where parents' reading levels and practices are often low. It seeks to bridge these gaps by establishing dedicated bookstations and book banks. These resources will foster a dynamic learning environment and provide continuous access to diverse reading materials.

To support ongoing literacy efforts, educational organizations, and personnel will conduct regular visits to these communities, offering youths the opportunity to learn effective reading skills and literacy.

Reading serves as the gateway to knowledge, and literacy forms the cornerstone of prosperous and enlightened societies. Through the collective effort of this initiative, let us strive to build a brighter future for Trinidad and Tobago by promoting reading, fostering literacy awareness, and empowering our youth.
