What does cinema "know", or how do movies affect the psyche?
This effect is easy: when we watch a movie, we use sight, hearing and imagination at once, and this increases our suggestibility - the degree of perception of external influences. Consequently, the received information "settles" in the subconscious. This creates certain patterns of behavior.
Already in the twentieth century, mankind knew about the possibilities of cinema. For example, they were successfully used to propagate Na**sm in the 1930s and 1940s. And even then, scientists knew that allowed cinema to manipulate us so easily.
For example, the Canadian philosopher Marshall McLuhan called cinema a "hot" means of communication: one that offers ready-made images, leaves no room for thought and reflection - only a sense of satiety, as if he knew everything.
So should you be afraid to watch movies?
And who really tends to copy the behavior of fictional characters?
The killers were caught, and the investigation found that the young men were "inspired" by the cold-bloodedness of the main characters of their favorite film in the massacre of the victims.
For example, back in 1995, Americans Benjamin Deres and Sarah Edmondson fell in love with the action "Innate Killers" about a couple of drug addicts who "have fun" killing random innocent people, and committed several crimes themselves.
Today, no murder is really associated with the new Joker. However, on October 9, a 25-year-old Lviv resident committed su***de. He did not leave a death note, but the boy's friends suggest that he was driven to su***de by watching the film "Joker".
Did you know that because of these cases - and many others like them - on the eve of the premiere of the new film "Joker" relatives of the victims of the "Jokers" wrote a letter to Warner Bros. asking not to release the film? Warner Bros. said the fictional story could not promote violence in real life.
In 2016, a 15-year-old Englishwoman cut her mouth to copy the Joker's smile and stabbed her friend in the chest.
In 2014, an American couple opened fire in Las Vegas. Two policemen and one unarmed witness were killed. The killer's man, Jarad Miller, changed into the Joker before the attack.
On July 20, 2012, one of the spectators opened fire in the cinema hall of the American city of Aurora during the screening of the film "The Dark Knight: Return of the Legend". Twelve people were killed and 70 were injured.
The tape, which "accompanied" the crime, told about Batman's opponent, the Joker. According to one version of the investigation, the killer associated himself with him.
