Cosmic Jaguar new EP titled The Order Of The Jaguar Knights is out now! Be sure to stretch and warm up your body soon because when you start to listen to this EP, your gonna wanna head bang for a good minute. Cosmic Jaguar new EP slashes those classic thrash tunes that are mixed with historical lyrics. The EP is filled with Aztec stories that will make any Latin American jump into a mosh pit for joy! You don’t see that much in music today where Aztec and Thrash music are mixed together. Cosmic Jaguar came together as a band to create an EP that kicks ass in that regards.
I’m currently enjoying the EP right now with my third overall listen. Here on this review, I would usually start off with which tracks I’m digging. Right now, I don’t have any picks because each track is damn good! I can’t say which one is better than the other, which is astonishing in my regards as a music reviewer. The band goes hard on each track in the EP with their music that flows very well. The guitars, the drums, the growls, all go well in each track.

Immerse yourself in the fascinating world of Aztec music and mythology with Cosmic Jaguar's new EP "The Order of the Jaguar Knights". The Ukrainian avant-garde musicians present a colourful masterpiece that will be self-released on 12 October 2023. Here you can expect a unique combination of drums, percussion, folk instruments and powerful lyrics, created by outstanding musicians such as Alejo Bárbaro and Sergio Lunático. Accompanied by session musicians and a special guest, the band presents a journey through their own interpretation of Aztec culture.
Aztec sounds are conquering the music scene, and Cosmic Jaguar is at the forefront of this fascinating trend. On 12 October 2023, their EP "The Order of the Jaguar Knights" will see the light of day, a masterpiece of avant-garde and technical thrash that pushes the boundaries of musical creativity.
Cosmic Jaguar is backed by outstanding musicians such as Alejo Bárbaro, known from Be***al Invasion, Reusmarkt and Omniverse, and Sergio Lunático, formerly of Be***al Invasion and Violent Omen. Together with former Be***al Invasion guitarist Juan Maestro, they create a unique soundscape that loses itself in the dimensions of Aztec mythology.
The self-released EP takes listeners on a journey through the mystical sounds of "The Shorn Ones", the powerful "The Bleeding Tree of Tamoanchan", the sombre "Obsidian Mirror" and a unique interpretation of the Cynic classic "Veil of Maya". The recording and mixing took place at Nuts4all Studio in Zaporizhzhia, Ukraine, and was produced under the direction of Sergio Lunático.
In addition to the core members, session musicians such as Dionisio Oscuro and Chimalma contribute to the diversity of the EP. A special highlight is the appearance of V. Zadiev, who shines with his vocals on the second track.
With "The Order of the Jaguar Knights", Cosmic Jaguar opens a portal to a new era of music. This EP promises not only an auditory experience, but also a journey into Aztec culture, brought to life through creative arrangements and the unique collaboration of the musicians.

🇬🇧English version:
Release date and label: This EP was self-released on 12 October 2023.
Other releases by the band: After five singles and an album, this is their first extended player.
How I got to know the band: Metal Devastation Radio is always good for music from the remotest corners of the world. This time there was some thrash metal from the Ukraine with this EP.
What do I think of the disc: The whole thing can really be described as progressive thrash metal. Not only do they really have something on their instruments and as composers, they also stretch the boundaries of the genre. The bass is reminiscent of jazz in places, while the vocals are always venomous and angry despite some power metal interludes, except for the parts where a female guest vocalist takes over. The drums are maltreated in the best thrash manner and the guitars don't get a break either. But despite all the gimmicks, they never forget that thrash has to be mercilessly forward and punch the listener in the face.
OBSIDIAN MIRROR is my favourite of this convolute of styles. As with the other tracks, the bass is allowed to really shine here, but also fits into the song structure. A little jazzy but brutal at the same time. The guitar solos should also not be forgotten or underestimated.
Conclusion: For some people it might be a bit cerebral, but I like it. It's not really for the masses, but I still recommend it. If you want to take up this little challenge, you can listen to it here.

🔮A new review from a French portal Metalnews!
🇬🇧English version:
Contacted by email by a band keen to promote their latest EP, I became interested in the case of this band whose recent past had been mysteriously overlooked. A nasty error of judgement, drowned out by the plethora of releases, especially as the name COSMIC JAGUAR was familiar to me having read it several times on social networks. So I thought I'd kill two birds with one stone and review not only this EP, but also its big brother.
Let's start with the first entry in the Ukrainian dictionary, and talk about The Legacy of the Aztecs, a band fascinated by the culture of the people of the same name, and therefore far removed from the usual themes of aggressive Metal, which is often concerned with social injustice, environmental pressures and other cheap gore. It's a passion that's original to say the least, and one that fits in well with the offbeat musical approach of a trio that frankly deserves to be better known.
Leaving aside the rather clumsy (but clear in its obsessions) cover art, The Legacy of the Aztecs is the very type of intelligent album that can be savoured from start to finish. Falling into the category of lovers of technique, our three Ukrainian friends offered us last April a formidable album of progressive techno-thrash, of the kind that the nineties continued to offer in defiance of fashionable trends.
Denis Tornillo on drums (BE***AL INVASION, REUSMARKT, OMNIVERSE), Sergio Lunático on bass and vocals (BE***AL INVASION, ex-VIOLENT OMEN) and Juan Maestro on guitar (ex-BE***AL INVASION, ex-SUNRISE) are all very familiar faces, having played together on other projects. This mutual trust allows them to tangle with the spirits of CORONER, ATHEIST, BELIEVER and CYNIC in a hellish game of musical Ouija that allows spirits to integrate bodies for possession.
Reminiscent at times even of the iconoclasts of DELIVERANCE and their Christian compatriots of the late 80s, The Legacy of the Aztecs dares to adopt a conservatory academicism coupled with a devouring interest in Aztec civilisation, which allows the trio to indulge in a few strange arrangements, giving their music a supernatural and esoteric aura that sets it apart from its over-wise competitors. But this preciousness doesn't prevent a few visceral lapses, like the one that drives the turbulent 'The Harbinger of the Sun', a mix of death/thrash fury, techno-thrash elitism and flute-driven folk delirium.
As you'll have gathered, COSMIC JAGUAR aren't for everyone, but they do flatter Thrash aesthetes. And the Ukrainians never hesitate to use incongruous ideas to make their violence flourish, even going so far as to try out a Spanish interlude on this same, decidedly insane "The Harbinger of the Sun".
This palpable madness is one of the band's main qualities, in a niche that has little patience for folk wanderings and favours jazz loops, which are more elitist but less touching. With a rhythm section constantly on the go, a guitarist who fancies himself the spiritual son of Chuck Schuldiner and Allan Holdsworth, and three iconoclasts who do as they please, COSMIC JAGUAR skilfully extricate themselves from a sea of new releases by playing the cheeky card.
Nostalgia is good when it comes in the form of complex but fluid songs. No filler tracks, no easy answers, just a passion for the precious works of our immortal WATCHTOWER - there's plenty to think about, and plenty to shake your head at. Because while the music of the Zhytomyr Oblast trio is the kind you write down on sheet music, its energy can also get you moving in epileptic mode, when the drums go into overdrive, propelled by an inventive and playful bass.
At times bordering on Metal-infused Jazz-Rock ('Chimalma: Mother of the Quetzalcoatl'), The Legacy of the Aztecs richly deserves its place in the pantheon of the densest and most complex Techno-Thrash works. By synthesising the work of some of the genre's biggest names, COSMIC JAGUAR have given themselves a rich vocabulary and a rebellious attitude. There's an underlying sense of pride in being able to play Thrash in such a convoluted way, without coming across as pretentious. And by focusing on the history of a civilisation that disappeared centuries ago, COSMIC JAGUAR provoke the Gods of wrath, and sign a manifesto of structured brutality of the highest order.
And even if it's impossible to ignore these recognisable influences (WATCHTOWER, BELIEVER, CORONER), it would be equally subjective not to admit that they've been digested with great relevance. And since a scientific truth is never more effective than when interrupted by a joke to lighten the tone, the trio make a completely incongruous cover version at the end of the film, quoting BABE RUTH via their "The Mexican", in the same way that CELTIC FROST appropriated Dean Martin.
A story that got off to a flying start and is still going strong. But we'll get to that in our next review. Ready to go?

🔮A new review from a French portal Metalnews!
🇬🇧English version: As I said in my previous review, I could have just talked about this EP without mentioning the band's past. But after discovering the strange and convoluted world of COSMIC JAGUAR, it became clear to me that a simple allusion wasn't enough to underline their undeniable talent. After the long format, the short format. So we're moving from a full-length to an extended play, but the content hasn't changed one iota. In fact, I have the feeling that it's got even tougher in just a few months.
With The Order of the Jaguar Knights, COSMIC JAGUAR offers us a brief sequel that takes up the challenge of transforming a wickedly tacked-on trial. The intentions were good, but the guarantees uncertain. It's not uncommon to see a band lose their way on the road to complexity, or on the contrary, make a stop on the road to popularisation. But these Ukrainians are decidedly clever, and have managed to strengthen their optics while retaining their exotic DNA. With the Aztec civilisation still as a backdrop, COSMIC JAGUAR condense, densify and sketch out the labyrinthine contours of a techno-thrash even more technical and violent than a few months ago. And right from the masterful smack of 'The Shorn Ones', the familiarity of the subject matter strikes home, even if the overall tone is darker and even more brutal.
On more than one occasion, the trio brushes up against the dangerous limits of progressive Death Metal, without denying their Thrash fundamentals. But with a much thicker, more consistent sound, The Order of the Jaguar Knights ratchet up the anger a few notches, while protecting the melodies that their debut album unashamedly imposed. A new level has been reached for the Ukrainians, who are shaking us up with their obsessions for ATHEIST. This tendency to growl louder, play tighter and string together the most insane plans supports the theory of radicalism, without sacrificing the incredible fluidity that links ideas together like on the seminal Elements.
The influences are stable, but harden and give way to tenfold energy. The increasingly circular and hypnotic bass lines, the guitar that divides itself between effective riffs and harmonic solos, and the drums that adapt to the band's be***al desires make this EP a veritable treasure trove of ingenuity and dexterity, but one that will be appreciated by those who prefer their Thrash straightforward and unapologetic.
The only thing wrong with The Order of the Jaguar Knights is its brevity. Barely twenty minutes (admittedly, just a few months after delivering a complete work) to enjoy these three originals and this cover is a timing too brief to satisfy, even if the shadow of The Legacy of the Aztecs still hangs over the memory. So I could have repeated here the arguments of my first review, so similar are the two releases. I could also deplore the fact that ATHEIST's influence is too great, and is now much more prominent than it was last April ('The Bleeding Tree of Tamoanchan'), but the whole thing is so perfect that I can't help but bow to the incredible skill that goes into sublime tracks that embrace every enriching idea (the improbable salsa break on 'The Bleeding Tree of Tamoanchan', the fluted finale of 'The Shorn Ones').
And since the trio have a little treat in store for us at the end, we can't help but be legitimately enthusiastic. By covering CYNIC's classic "Veil of Maya", COSMIC JAGUAR assumes its filiation with the progressive Techno-Death scene of the first half of the 90s, and establishes itself as the attentive heir to the opening of the testament. Although too brief, The Order of the Jaguar Knights is still a step in the direction of perfection, and if the band can claim a well-deserved break, its fanbase is likely to be biting its nails as it awaits a sequel that augurs the best and the most complicated.

👉Be***al Invasion have been a force to be reckoned with on the technical thrash circuit for a number of years now, but what do you do when you have an idea that doesn’t quite fit within that remit and you need to scratch that itch? Well, you form Cosmic Jaguar and release your debut album ‘The Legacy of the Aztecs’.
Now, you might be forgiven that thinking something called Cosmic Jaguar is Be***al Invasions dropping acid and spending time wandering around the psychedelic astral planes of Tenochtitlan, but no, these are members of Be***al Invasion and therefore, they’re going to stick to what they know and that is balls to the wall technical thrash metal. Musically, we know exactly what this band are capable of and when they splice that high-octane, top-tier Chuck Schuldiner style death/thrash with themes of Aztec themes and mythologies, they create something which it thunderously powerful. Furthermore, to make this point even stronger, Cosmic Jaguar bring in Latin American instrumentation where tracks such as ‘Temple of the Feathered Serpent’, ‘The Harbinger of the Sun’ and ‘Chimalma: Mother of the Quetzalcoatl’ show a band with all the enjoyability of Atheist and Voivod as well as Cynic and Death.
What Cosmic Jaguar have delivered with ‘The Legacy of the Aztecs’ is an aggressive assault of death/thrash. It marches the listener up the 1000 steps, places them on the altar and jams in an obsidian blade removing your heart and presenting it to the sky. Yes, it’s brutal and it is good. If you like your death/thrash with themes of historical aggression, then ‘The Legacy of the Aztecs’ is for you.

Cosmic Jaguar: The Order of the Jaguar Knights (2023) - mini-review
Ukraine band Cosmic Jaguar are out with the EP "The Order of the Jaguar Knights", and progressive metal is probably the best manner in which to define the landscapes explored on this production. I suspect that thrash metal may be the foundation for this band's various excursions, but what defines their compositions is a liberal array of changes and alterations in pace and intensity. Intense runs that cross over to extreme metal at times are just as important here as flowing and elegant interludes, and wedged in between those extremes we get an array of excursions into technically challenging and quirky territories, with both of those features combined more often than not. That the band have chosen to cover Cynic's 'Veil of Maya' is probably indicative of the direction they have chosen to orient themselves after, although for this cover as well as for their own originals with a bit less of a jazz-oriented expression than what I recall good, old Cynic used to have. A production to seek out by those fond of quirky and challenging progressive metal explored from a thrash metal foundation and perspective.

🇬🇧English version:
When I think of Ukraine, many different things come to mind... Of course the current war, soccer home games of Shakhtar Donetsk, which are played in Hamburg, but also many good pagan/black metal bands, some of which have a strange attitude. But Cosmic Jaguar have nothing to do with any of that. With the band name, the artwork of their new EP and the band photo with the bandana, I would have expected glam metal, haha! In fact, this trio plays really cool, technically adept progressive death/thrash metal. Although the band was only founded in 2022, they have already released a regular album. Now they are adding four songs. Very creative, and anything but bad! There are three original compositions on here that go down well! The tricky opener "The Shorn Ones" still gets by with aggressive growls. On "The Bleeding Tree Of Tamoanchan", however, there are also some melodic vocals. In "Obsidian Mirror" there is even some blasting. Every song sounds different, yet the band has a common thread that runs through all the songs like a unique style.
Crooked bars, many changes, but a rolling, impressive flow of playing can be heard here. The three musicians involved have an audible command of their instruments and are full of ideas. Nevertheless, they don't get lost there, but are able to organize the many ideas in such a way that they don't overwhelm the listener. You have to manage that with this musical orientation. Death, Atheist and Cynic come to mind as suitable comparisons. And so the circle closes, because the fourth and last song on this EP is even a cover of Cynic, namely "Veil Of Maya", the opener from their brilliant 1993 debut "Focus", true to the original with electronically distorted vocals, flamenco giatars and lovely female vocals. Hats off! The interplay is great, the production good and squeaky clean. The only thing that's a shame is that the band doesn't have a label behind them and this EP is only available digitally via Bandcamp. Perhaps a record company should take notice and release it on CD. Cosmic Jaguar definitely deserve it!

👉"The Order of the Jaguar Knights", so titelt sich die EP von COSMIC JAGUAR.
🇬🇧English version: "The Order of the Jaguar Knights" is the title of COSMIC JAGUAR's EP. The trio tries to break your bones, rumbles violently, pulls a chain around your neck at the right volume and presses those fat, lowered, bloody guitar riffs into your back. Under a guitar sound that sounds suspiciously like an old engine, you're happy to step on the accelerator before falling back into familiar patterns. The riffs develop into destructive organ rippers. The high level of effectiveness with which COSMIC JAGUAR operate over the entire playing time makes "The Order of the Jaguar Knights" a strong EP with the right degree of variety for the genre. But the songs on "The Order of the Jaguar Knights" have atmosphere - a sick, creeping, insidious and latently threatening atmosphere.
