Dental caries/cavities/holes in teeth come when the existing bacteria in the mouth convert the remaining sugars on the teeth into acid that demineralizes the hard part of the tooth (enamel)

sugars can be got from foods like chocolate, sodas, sweets, biscuits. The bacteria feed on this sugar and turn it into dental plaque, a yellow, sticky coating that forms on the surface of the teeth

this is why it is important to brush your teeth very well after eating sweet foods to reduce on the time sugar residues spend on your teeth
