Pulse oximetry is one of the ways of detecting hypoxemia save for clinical signs and blood gas analysis. It is also used for monitoring patients that are receiving oxygen and detecting oxygen saturation of haemoglobin in blood. A pulse oximeter when in use displays three parameters; SPO2, Pulse Rate and Pulse wave. The first two are used to diagnose the state of the patient while pulse wave is used to determine the goodness of the reading depending on its consistent. This medical device is a basic tool for any medical centre and all doctors and clinicians should strive to own one.
