Dear ILaED.org Members and supporters,

As we celebrate International Women's Day this year, we at ILaED.org want to take a moment to highlight one of our projects that embodies the spirit of this day: Empowering Women in Art & Crafts for economic value in Uganda, a collaboration with GSWIM.

Remember: In 2022, we embarked on a journey to empower and motivate women in the Ugandan art and craft community.

Through this initiative, we aimed to:

Enhance their creativity by providing training and workshops.

Support them in "leveling up" their artistic skills to create and produce unique, commercial crafts.

Equip them with the skills and resources needed to transform their talents into economic opportunities.

This project wasn't just about creating beautiful artwork; it was about empowering women and fostering a supportive network where they could learn, share, and thrive.

The results? We witnessed incredible growth and transformation. Women honed their skills, produced commercially viable crafts, and gained access to new markets. This, in turn, led to improved livelihoods and sustainable households, ultimately paving the way for a brighter future for these talented women and their families.

This Women's Day, We Celebrate:

The powerful impact of investing in women's talent and creativity.

The ripple effect created by empowering women to contribute to their communities and families.

The vibrant artistic legacy that was built by these empowered women throughout the project.

Join Us in Celebrating Women!

While our Ugandan project has concluded, the spirit of empowering women continues to drive our mission at ILaED.org. Here's how you can be part of the movement:

Spread the word! Share this message and raise awareness about our work in supporting women's economic empowerment.

HANDY WOMEN SKILLS SCHOOL CENTER PARTNERED WITH ILaED. ORG (INTERNATIONAL LAWYERS AND ECONOMISTS FOR DEVELOPMENT) AND KCCA EMPLOYMENT SERVICE BUREAU FOR THE NOVEMBER TRAINING IN CRAFTS WHICH WAS A SUCCESS.

UNDERSTANDING THE TRADITIONAL KNOWLEDGE OF CRAFTS IS VERY IMPORTANT FOR WOMEN ENTREPRENEURS WHO ARE PASSIONATE ABOUT BEING CREATIVE, INNOVATIVE AND REACHING NEW HEIGHTS IN THEIR BUSINESSES.

THE TRAINING WAS FACILITATED BY ADVOCATE PAULA NAMUSITWA WHO SENSITIZED THE WOMEN ON TRADITIONAL KNOWLEDGE AND SOME EXTRA SPECIAL NUGGETS ON IP (INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS).
MS. CISSY NAGAWA SKILLED THE WOMEN ON THE BASIC CRAFTING OF A MAT AND ORDINARY BASKET AKA KIKAPU. THIS WAS EXTREMELY FUN FOR THE WOMEN BECAUSE THEY UNDERSTOOD VERY WELL THAT EVEN THOUGH SOME OF THEM HAVE AN 8AM TO 5PM JOB, THEY CAN DO THIS ON THE SIDE AND EARN AN INCOME.

Today at UWEAL House, i had the privilege of attending a session led by Matrin Ssebulime, a Certification Officer from UNBS (Uganda National Bureau of Standards). This enlightening training delved into the 'Quality Mark Acquisition Preparedness Standard Procedure,' providing a profound understanding of product certification. The session covered a range of crucial steps for businesses, from understanding product requirements through UNBS standards and acquiring essential certificates and registrations from organizations like Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB) and Uganda Revenue Authority (URA). It stressed the significance of designing product labels, team training in product standards and quality and safety requirements, as well as quality control checkpoints, monitoring steps, corrective actions, and product testing through recognized laboratories. This knowledge empowers women entrepreneurs to meet quality and safety standards, aligning perfectly with UWEAL's unwavering commitment to equipping them with the tools for success in the business world.
