Case Study: How Volted Installations LTD Helped a Hotel in Najjera Save Money and Improve Guest Comfort Through Energy-Efficient Electrical Services

Background:
Najjera, a suburb in Kampala, Uganda, is no stranger to frequent power blackouts that can disrupt daily life and business operations. One hotel in the area, facing high energy bills and a desire to provide a comfortable guest experience, turned to Volted Installations LTD for help.

Solution:
Our team of electrical engineers and technicians conducted a thorough energy audit of the hotel, identifying areas where energy consumption could be reduced without compromising guest comfort. We recommended several solutions, including:

Lighting: We recommended replacing the hotel's outdated incandescent bulbs with energy-efficient LED bulbs. By doing so, the hotel was able to significantly reduce its energy consumption while improving the lighting ambiance in public spaces and guest rooms. We also installed occupancy sensors to turn off lights automatically in areas that were not in use, further reducing energy waste.

Cooling: We recommended installing key card systems in guest rooms to control the power supply to all electrical outlets in the room. Key card systems operate by turning off the power supply to all electrical outlets when the guest room is unoccupied. When the guest returns and inserts their key card, the power supply is automatically restored. This way, all electrical outlets in the guest room are only in use when the guest is present, significantly reducing energy consumption.

Extraction Fans: We also recommended connecting the extraction fans in the hotel's toilets to the light switch. This means that the fan will only run when the light switch is on, reducing unnecessary energy consumption when the toilet is not in use.

Results:
After implementing these solutions, the hotel saw immediate results. The hotel's monthly energy bills were reduced by an average of UGX 8 million per month, which amounts to over UGX 96 million in savings over a year. Beyond the financial savings, the hotel also experienced an improvement in guest satisfaction. Guests reported feeling more comfortable in their rooms and experiencing fewer interruptions due to power outages.
