⏰ Don’t forget the launch broadcast of NASA's Launch Services Program SWOT mission. The SWOT satellite will liftoff aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket in Vandenberg, California.
Coverage begins at 6am ET: https://bit.ly/3VXThHB
Here is the astronomical object NGC 2264 , located in the constellation Monoceros and distant from us by about 2,600 light years. It contains several interesting elements , for example, an open cluster of stars formed by bright , pink-red baubles of protostars or newborn stars under the name Christmas Tree .
Below it you can see a dark column of dust and gas - this is the Cone nebula, about 7 light years long.
Above the Christmas Tree cluster is the emission nebula Fox Fur.
The whole outer part is mixed with dark clouds of interstellar dust.
The infrared image was taken by the Spitzer Space Telescope - NASA.
Perhaps the most-terrifying space photograph to date. Astronaut Bruce McCandless II floats completely untethered, away from the safety of the space shuttle, with nothing but his Manned Maneuvering Unit keeping him alive. The first person in history to do so.

Mars shining at its brightest near the Moon 🌟
IT'S TODAY
🌕 December 8, 2022, at 04:21 GMT, the Full Moon and Mars will meet in the constellation Ta**us. The distance between them will be 32', which is a bit too far for a telescope's field of view. Opt for binoculars or observe with the naked eye – the same day, Mars will reach opposition and shine at its brightest (magnitude -1.9).
🔭 Another spectacular event that will occur today December 8 is the lunar occultation of Mars. It will be visible in the sky above Northern America, Europe, and Northern Africa – stargazers from that locations will see the luminous Red Planet disappearing behind the Full Moon

A wreath was placed in Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex's Astronaut Hall of Fame
in memory of former NASA Astronauts James A. McDivitt who commanded the Gemini IV and
Apollo 9 missions.
After logging more than 14 days in space, McDivitt went on to manage the team planning the lunar exploration program and became manager of the Apollo Spacecraft Program.
NASA Kennedy thanks him for his service to America's Space Program 🕊

Four astronauts are now on their way to the International Space Station!
This morning at 3:52 a.m. ET, astronauts Kjell Lindgren, Bob Hines, Jessica Watkins, and Samantha Cristoforetti launched from Launch Complex 39A, beginning their 15.5-hour journey to the orbiting lab.
The Crew Dragon Freedom spacecraft is set to dock autonomously to the space-facing port of the station’s Harmony module at 8:15 p.m. ET on April 27.
The mission is the fourth crew rotation to fly on a SpaceX Crew Dragon spacecraft and Falcon 9 rocket and the fifth SpaceX flight with NASA astronauts, including the Demo-2 test flight in 2020 to the space station, as part of the agency’s Commercial Crew Program.
