This week's SAIIA is Zukile Somkhanda👏👏👏

Zukile Somkhanda is a 24 years old young leader, born and bred in Flagstaff, Eastern Cape. She completed her matric at Ibisi High School in 2013 with 6 distinctions and is currently pursuing a Law degree at Nelson Mandela University. Zukile is passionate about everything cultural and traditional related. She equally passionate about people and she always try to be involved in Community Projects because she believes she cannot change the world alone, but can be an agent of change.

Zukile is an active member of Drama Society and the Legal Integration Project at NMU. In 2016, she became the Academic Officer of the House Committee at Veritas Residence (NMU). Amongst the list of activities that she is a part of, Zukile participated Model United Nations (MUN) conferences at different South African Universities. Her experience in MUN Conferences allowed her to participate in the recently held Global Goal Model United Nations which was held in Malaysia earlier where she was awarded the Best Delegate Award under the delegation of Gender Equality.

Zukile is also involved in numerous community projects that help abandoned children. Zukile, along with Zakhele Mchunu, Lunga Mabela and Lusanda Baai, founded 'Own Your Throne', an organisation that helps learners from rural areas, in all 9 provinces, complete high school, gain knowledge on the various careers available and apply for University. Over and above the work she does with her organization, she donates matric dance dresses to learners who cannot afford to purchase dresses and assists struggling University Students with food.

She is affiliated with ‘Indoni-My Heritage. My Pride’ which is a cultural school. She is also part of Women & Youth Genesis, which is a non-profit organization that aims at equipping women and youth by supporting them to find their unique talents and assist in developing them.
