Former students of Namilyango College under their alumni association, Namilyango College Old Boys Association (NACOBA), and stakeholders will today trek to the college to mark its 113th anniversary.
A new dormitory will be opened as part of the activities to mark the anniversary celebrations.
NACOBA was at the forefront of tiling the floors of 10 houses or dormitories, as they are commonly known, at the all-boys school.
“The old boys have raised about Shs35 million towards this project, which cost over Shs50 million and was partly financed by the Parents-Teachers Association,” Mr Fred Gyavira Kyaka, the NACOBA chairperson, said in a recent interview.
In 2014, the association handed over an extension to the sickbay whose construction they financed.

The college, which was opened on March 23, 1902, by the Catholic Mill Hill Missionaries, is the oldest secondary school in Uganda.
The chief guest at today’s celebrations will be Bishop Christopher Kakooza of Lugazi Diocese who will lead the mass to open the function at 9am.
Activities
The college will also open a new modern 120-bed dormitory, Heweston House, named after “an instrumental headmaster in the history of the college”.
Other activities planned to mark the day include career guidance seminars by former students, as well as a free medical camp for the community around the college.
The camp will be facilitated by old boys in the medical profession and other partners.
The college also celebrates the recent appointment of Bart Magunda Katureebe as Chief Justice. Mr Katureebe, who also served as Attorney General between 1996 and 2001, was a student at Namilyango in 1969 and 1970.

School Anthem
Bless this school Oh Lord we pray
Make it Safe by night and day
Bless the walls so firm and stout
Keeping want and trouble out
Bless each master, bless each boy
Make thy peace be all our joy
Bless the door that it may prove
Ever open to joy and love
Bless the window shinning bright
Let in God’s heavenly light
Bless the school and make it thy own
With prayers ascending to thy throne
Bless the people dwell here in
Keep them pure and free from sin
Bless us all that we one day
May dwell with thee eternally
Amen
