We are INCREDIBLY blessed to have gotten a phone call from one of our suppliers letting us know that they have a limited number of this beauty in stock for us! This is one of my most favorite rare plants.... 😍😍😍

All the kids can’t wait to sell veggies at the markets this year though. Everyone is working especially hard this season. Team work makes the dream work and families are the strongest teams! 💪🏼 😁 🌱🍃🍅🌶🍓

Okay, look…. I have a reasonable explanation for this 🤣🤪

On the way home from the pool one very hot July afternoon I had made a stop at the garden and noticed some melons had gotten quite large overnight on the vertical trellis. I didn’t have the hammocks with me but I had my bathing suit top on underneath my tank. Knowing I was less than a mile from the house I decided to just use the bikini top.

It worked out so great! The material is nice and stretchy and strong, won’t break and also controls moisture!

So now I’m making frequent trips to the thrift stores for bikini tops to fill the entire trellis this year 🤪🤣🤩 😉

Rise and shine! Time for the plant grind! Good morning fellow plant and garden lovers and dreamers. Today is a new day and one are closer to consistent heavenly seasons and weather. Happy times!

In zone 6 we have our spring crop ready to plant and enjoy. What’s your favorite early spring crop and what zone are you in?

The anticipation of seasonal gardening is real!

My friends! Did you know that sweet potatoes grow differently than regular potatoes? Here’s something fun to do!

Take your little ones to the grocery store and pick up organic sweet potatoes, cut them in half, place tooth picks on each side to hold them up in a glass of water that covers half the potato. Over the next couple weeks watch roots and slips shoot up and develop beautiful leaves and vines.

Plant the slips by the roots In the summer when the temps are consistently above 60 degrees (F). The vines will attach themselves into the ground and grow sweet potatoes just under the soil. Harvest should be ready in fall when leaves start to turn yellow 😁

To the garden we will go
to sew and sew and sew
And now our seeds are in a place
where our food will surely grow

Kids have so much fun seeing science unfold right before their eyes that they don’t even realize how much they are truly learning…. 👩‍🔬✏️

We are excited this upcoming Spring and Summer to provide our local community with a kids gardening and plant program where we can teach about plants, their contributions and important roles they play, and basic care (including growing from seed and bare root). We plant to explore fun projects and activities in order to enhance their knowledge and skills…. And of course to have fun 🤩 .

Our family hopes to promote gardening within the family unit and community by teaching youth about growing their own food and the benefits of plants in healing, to which we believe are essential life skills.

The littlest of our garden family has grown some slips from her sweet potatoes 😁we will break them off and place them in water to grow strong roots and plant them when it’s hot outside! Sweet potato vines do tend to take over the garden so we are extra cautious on this one 🤣

The Venus fly trap, known as Dionaea muscipula, is an unusual carnivorous plant that eats insects 🪰🦟🪲 in order to survive. Native to the subtropical wetlands of North and South Carolina, it’s the state flower of North Carolina and appears on the NC flag!

The plant can also be found in other parts of the world, including Puerto Rico, Brazil, India, China, and Australia! 🇵🇷🇧🇷🇮🇳🇨🇳

Did you know you can grow your own sweet potatoes from store bought potatoes? Though certain rules apply, it is certainly possible! We do it every year and yield hundreds of full flavored potatoes!

Sweet potatoes grow differently than regular potatoes. Where regular potatoes grow deep in ground, (most popular in buckets and super handy potato bags), sweet potatoes are grown from vines that attach themselves to the top layer of soil and burrow just underneath.

Growing sweet potato slips (or vines) at home is super easy and an especially fun project to watch unfold 😍🍠🍃

This tiny little thing was the first berry produced from the strawberry plant after the first year of bare root planting. We did an experiment planting 20 bare root strawberry plants. From ten plants we pinched off the first set of flowers for the first year and the other ten plants we let them grow out the fruit. It is said that by pinching off the flowers the first year the plant is able to focus its energy on growth and development resulting in larger and sweeter berries the following year. Our results were very interesting 😁

The Guinness World Record for “most tomatoes harvested from a single plant over one year” was 32,194 tomatoes harvested between May 2005 and April 2006, and the plant weighed 522.464 kg (1151.84 lbs)! 🍅🌱
