Mathis for Albany

Mathis for Albany

Our goal is to move Albany, GA in a direction where all citizens can prosper in a safe community.

12/08/2023

The Mathis for Mayor Campaign presented a very Pro-Active Anti-Crime Platform. Today we are 19 homicides in Albany. Not a word from the local leadership.

12/02/2023

“ The loss hurts, but please never stop believing that fighting for what’s right is worth it. It is worth it.” Yes, the loss hurts. But what hurts the most is that we have 57,649 registered voters and only 10,116 voted. Wow!

But “We must accept the result and look toward the future.” “Bo Dorough is going to be our mayor. We owe him an open mind and the chance to lead."

“Our commissioners have to reach across the aisle to do the people’s work, and we citizens also have to rise to the occasion.”

His success alone commands my respect for his ability and perseverance, but that he managed to do so by infiltrating our community with a false hope. All of the black communities are in need of repair. It takes one with the heart and love for our communities to address the problems of our communities. I was compared to the All mighty and not the alternatives in the race for mayor.

“What you did or did not do, made a difference, whether you voted or not voted. And building on itself we go on to make a difference another day. I promise you that time will come.

Finally, in the words of Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes “wake up everybody, no more sleeping in bed, no more backward thinking, time for thinking ahead.

In the words of Curtis Mayfield:
If you had a choice of colors Which one would you choose my brother

If there was no day or night which would you prefer to be right...

Carolyn and I Thank you

Pray for us as we continue our service to our people and the people of Albany. This setback will not stop Carolyn and my service to the people.
God bless you

ALBANY — Ten area clergy members on Tuesday announced their endorsement of Albany mayoral candidate Henry Mathis in his second bid for the office.
Mathis also was endorsed recently by civil rights activist J.T. Johnson and former Westover High School football coach Winfred Benson.

On Tuesday, pastors Eddie B. Bankston, R.L. Chatmon, Andrew E. McDowell Jr., Charles McDonald and Ron Smith gave their reasons for backing Mathis during a news conference at the candidate’s East Broad Avenue campaign headquarters.

Mathis announced that pastors Felix Revills, Joseph Howard, Kendrick Barlow, E.L. Wilson and Oscar Benton also had endorsed him but were unable to attend the news conference.

Mathis is one of three candidates seeking to unseat incumbent Mayor Bo Dorough in the Tuesday municipal election, along with businessman Omar Salaam and businessman and minister Antonio Screen Sr.

“Being born and raised here in Albany — I’ve been here 62 years — I’ve seen a lot going on in this city,” McDowell, pastor at Greater United Pleasant Green Baptist Church in Leesburg, said. “You want a man who’s got that heart not just in being the mayor but has the heart for the people.

“I stand behind him because he’s shown me over the years to be a friend. He’s an upstanding man in the community. We endorse Henry Mathis for mayor of Albany, Georgia.”

McDonald, pastor at Mt. Early Baptist Church in Albany, said he feels that Mathis is the right person for the job.
“Mr. Mathis is very qualified,” he said. “He is very qualified. He has a passion to see this city grow, to see between the lines to make Albany what Albany needs to be.”

The endorsements mean a great deal to him, Mathis said.
“They know the problems, and most of all they know the candidates,” he said. “I grew up with many
of them. They know my passion for Albany; they know my love of Albany and they know I’m capable of leading this city.”
