Todays scenario - get the victim off the roof of the firehouse across the street into the third floor of the parking garage. From there over to the stairwell and up to the fourth floor across the fourth floor close to the movie theater over onto the marquee of the movie theater. once at the marquee they will need to deflect the rescue package down and onto the ground. The caveat never let the rescue package touch the ground once it is on rope. Wrapped up a Confined Space Rescue Technician Course on Friday with New Rochelle Fire Department and the New Rochelle Firefighters. Final scenarios included an actual confined space that truly put together all of the skill sets this motivated group of students have been learning. Next up for them is Rope Rescue Technician in a couple of weeks! We look forward to get back at it with them. Another busy week: tech rescue training with an industrial fire brigade, multiple standby crews out in NY & PA, some scheduled, some emergent. The third and final scenario of Rescues Gone Wrong at the NYS DHSES State Preparedness Training Center Technical Rescue Conference was a failure of the mainline of a hybrid skate block. This team had to evaluate why the failure occurred, and get the victim to the ground past an obstruction. After their assessment they determined the rope wasn’t damaged and it was a failure at the anchor. They reestablished the skate block to a new anchor and unloaded the locked ASAP, then continued the lower. Our staff in house broke into the hybrid track line and lowered the rest of the way on a single line. Both teams completed the evolutions safely in around 12 minutes. None of them had ever been presented with such a problem and some of the attendees weren’t familiar or never has done an actual skate block of any variety. It’s these unknowns that we must be able to evaluate, and be comfortable with our decisions and skills in uncomfortable and unfamiliar situations something’s. Realistic Ice Rescue Training
Some highlights of real world ice rescue conditions from the first weekend of our train the trainer course with the Vermont Fire Academy last weekend on Lake Bomoseen. This was just thrown together quickly but shows some self rescues, go rescues and one using a Rescue Alive. Thanks to Woodard Marine for the great location and we are looking forward to finishing up with the VFA instructors next weekend.

We’ve been busy supporting multiple clients. Here, in a confined space entry where workers are protected by our systems from fall hazards and on our retrieval systems. Their challenge is leaking water which in this entry has more flow than others encountered so far.

From this past weekend, our students who are members from West Fort Ann Vol. Fire / Rescue hauling up their rescuer and victim Shelving Rock Falls Trail in their response district. This was one of several scenarios in the area, as they have a wide variety of rock faces, trails and embankments they respond to.
