It's that time again! Time to trim those goat hooves. Hope I don't blind anyone with my extremely white legs. I actually like to trim my goats hooves. It is very rewarding to do something that I know will help them live the best life they can live. In my finished hoof picture the hoof looks wet and that is because I use a solution on them that treats and prevents hoof rot. Hoof rot can lead to lameness and if your goat is in milk the bacteria can cause mastitis! It also stinks really bad! I mean it is rot! So, I trim and take care of their hooves to keep them healthy. It is good for their balance, skeletal and muscular health and the list goes on for the benefits of a trim! I love my goats and want the best for them. ❤🐐

We have been dealing with blocked milk ducts and the beginnings of mastitis. I have been warding it off with a salve and warm compresses. Today Elena wasn't happy about her warm compresses. Things went south as you will see in this video! She is no stranger to headbutting! She also broke the door. We fixed the door!
My sweet calm girls. This is why I love alpine goats so much. Quiet and affectionate! They make great milk!
Me finishing my milking this morning. I milk Elena with my fingers most of the time because she has short teats. It makes it hard to full fist milk her. She is pretty good most of the time. When you see me move my hand from the pitcher handle I am setting her feed bucket back up. She makes it fall over so she can move the feed around to pick out what she wants to eat. Sometimes she sets it back up on her own. When she does it in the goat house it usually dumps into my shoe!🙄 So I keep setting it up to avoid that. At the end you will see me massage her udders. This is to help all of the milk let down and it helps prevent mastitis......... Thats the run down.
Monty knocking down leaves for himself and his lady friends. He was very determined and went on like this for at least 5 minutes. He got his workout for the day! Silly French Alpine Billy goat!
My sweet baby Ancona duckys and their new water bowl. They are still learning how to get in and out of it. I put some other small bowls upside-down for them to use as steps. Duckys have my heart! They are my favorite bird! These little ones are not for sale!
Milking Elena
Farmer Laura here milking a goat 😂👩🌾 I don't have a big bucket because Elena is still nursing. I have held them off before and she was making about 2 1/2 gallons daily. She has slowed down some. I hope to get 1 1/2 gallons daily. She is starting to wean her kids. The little boy goes home Monday June 7th. That will make a huge difference in how much milk I will get from her. Willow doesn't nurse as much as Sunny! He sucks up all the milk! I am getting about 32 oz daily while she has both of them on. I am milking the last bit after she nursed here and I got a perfect glass of milk for my breakfast. Her milk tastes wonderful. I'm in heaven! I have purchased a milking machine but I actually don't mind milking her. Most of the time she is a good girl and let's me milk her. Mark will be building me a milking stand soon. That will be good for my back! Right now I use a small milking stool or I squat. Its not the best situation but it works for now. PS. The crazy scratching noise in the background is Sunny trying to get to his mom! He is a big baby when I take her away. I milk her in the goat house with the door shut! Other wise the kids want to nurse or be petted and that isn't good for milking!!! Have a great Wednesday!
