URGENT! WE NEED YOUR HELP! Tell your lawmakers to pass the Richard Star Act to help get combat-injured veterans the benefits they deserve. Here’s how: ❗️Go to moaa.org/staract OR ❗️Call 866-272-MOAA ❗️Ask to speak with the military legislative assistant ❗️Tell them this: 🚩The Major Richard Star Act will allow combat-injured veterans to receive their earned retirement pay and their disability pay without offset. 🚩DoD is responsible for retired pay, and the VA is responsible for disability compensation. 🚩These are two different payments for two different purposes. 🚩Reducing DoD retirement pay due to a combat injury is an injustice. 🚩Congress acknowledged this as an injustice in the 2004 NDAA and partially fixed it (but not for combat-injured veterans who did not reach 20 years of service). Time is running out for this bill. Make sure your voice is heard!

Ask your senators to support the Richard Star Act today to help combat injured veterans. Go to MOAA.org/staract to send them a message. MOAA joined fellow military and veteran advocacy groups along with wounded veterans July 10th on Capitol Hill for a series of meetings with legislators—a final push to include language helping thousands of injured retirees as part of the must-pass NDAA. If passed, this bill would end an unjust offset which costs combat-injured retirees a dollar of DoD-provided retirement pay for every dollar of VA-provided disability compensation.

The house armed services committee is doing their all day markup of the NDAA, but the Star Act, which would help our combat-injured, isn’t in there due to the CUTGO rule. Ask your lawmaker to waive the rule and include the Star Act (H.R. 1282) in the NDAA. Call 866-272-MOAA and ask to be connected to your congressman’s office. Ask to speak with the military legislative assistant and tell them: Combat injured are being denied earned retirement pay, we need the Speaker and Rules Committee to waive the CUTGO rule, and to please make sure H.R. 1282 is included in the NDAA.
