Minimum Training and Experience
This position requires the following basic requirements:
• Must be enrolled as a student in a college or university of good standing and be at least 18 years age.
• A minimum of 9 credit hours shall be sustained per semester (excluding summers)
• Maintain a GPA of 2.0
• Possess a valid Michigan driver's license
• No history of felony convictions or convictions that prohibit ownership, possession, or control of a firearm.
The ability to read and understand departmental policies, rules, regulations, police literature, the ability to write clear and accurate reports, basic computer skills, and the desire to be part of an organization that values service, people, integrity, responsibility, innovation, and teamwork.

Other Necessary Qualifications
• Possess good moral character as determined by a favorable comprehensive background investigation covering school and employment record, personal traits, and integrity. (Arrests and expunged convictions, all previous law violations, and personal protection orders.) A poor driving record or misdemeanor convictions may negatively affect opportunity for employment.
• This position will be disqualified upon completion of an Under Graduate Degree or Master's Degree or failure to maintain current college enrollment.
• There is no requirement to major in Criminal Justice, all majors will be considered for this position. This position requires a minimum of an 18-hour work week and a maximum of a 24-hour work week.

Congratulations Officer William Grabinski and Officer Ethan Mickey (2024 Basic Police Academy graduates)

GVSU recently graduated another group of recruits from their police academy. Two of them have already begun the Field Training Program with Walker PD.

Officer Grabinski graduated from high school at Muskegon Catholic Central and was working with Meijer Asset Protection prior to joining Walker PD. He enjoys hunting & fishing and plans to pick up painting.

Officer Mickey graduated from Northview High School and went on to join the US Navy, where he served for 4 years before obtaining a degree in criminal justice. In his spare time he enjoys working out, completing LEGO sets, and playing video games.

A police recruit is an Ottawa County Sheriff's Office employee that is sponsored to attend an MCOLES approved academy. Once academy is completed, the recruit will be reclassified as a Sheriff's Deputy.

LAW ENFORCEMENT JOB OPENING

The City of Plymouth is accepting entry level and lateral transfer applications for the position of Police Officer. Applicant must be MCOLES certified/certifiable or currently attending an MCOLES approved police academy at time of application. Applicant must be able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays. A lateral transfer candidate shall transfer directly into the established wage scale, based on the number of prior years of service.

•Starting (Non Lateral) - $55,578
• 1 Year - $65,672
• 2 Years - $75,843
• 3 Years - $86,015

A “year of service” shall be defined as a minimum of 2,080 hours worked in either road patrols or investigations only. Any law enforcement experience outside of these two areas shall not be considered toward lateral transfer status. Years of service with another community shall not count towards department seniority, vacation accrual, longevity nor retirement.
