Members of the Lehigh County Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT) honored Sheriff Hanna with a breakfast and plaque for his years of service. Sheriff Hanna served as a Negotiator from 2017 – 2024.
He began his tenure as a Negotiator with the Allentown Police Dept. (1995) then as a Lieutenant commanding the unit (1997-2006). As Asst. Chief of Operations he oversaw the Allentown Emergency Response Team (ERT) and Hostage Negotiation Team (2006-2013).
Sheriff Hanna was humbled by this recognition and honored to serve with such a high caliber of Negotiators.

On May 21, 2024, Deputy Rich Garner and K-9 Nevie joined the Lehigh Valley area K-9’s at Coca Cola Park for the Iron Pigs Game. Thousands of School Students from throughout the Region attended the game and many were able to meet with Deputy Garner and Nevie and other area K-9’s.
On Friday, May 17th, Deputy Rich Garner and K-9 Nevie visited Sheckler Elementary School in Catasauqua for Career Day at the School. The K-9 Team and Nevie are always a huge hit with the Children and the Public.
On Tuesday, May 21st Sheriff Hanna, Vice Chairperson of the Allentown Police Athletic League joined Chief Roca and PAL mentors on a field trip to Harrisburg. State Representative Josh Siegel 22nd District hosted the event which included 35 of our PAL students. They were recognized on the floor of the House, treated to lunch and a tour of our State Capitol.
Sheriff Hanna congratulates Lieutenants Melissa Vaka and Robert Urban on their successful completion of the FBI- LEEDA program and receipt of the Trilogy Award.
Individuals who complete the Supervisor Leadership Institute, Command Leadership Institute and Executive Leadership Institute, each one week in duration, receive the Trilogy Award.

On behalf of the members of the Lehigh County Sheriffs Office, Sheriff Hanna along with Deputy Tonia Taylor presented Allentown Police Officer Jacqueline Murray with $987. This contribution was made for Officer Murray’s Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Visionary of the Year fundraiser. We thank the men and woman of the Sheriff’s Office for their generous contribution to a most worthy cause.

Sheriff Hanna proudly reports the successful reaccreditation of the Lehigh County Sheriff’s Office following a comprehensive review of the past 3 years by PLEAC. The Sheriff’s Office received accolades by the assessment team for their operational compliance and efficiency.

On Tuesday, April 9th, Sheriff Hanna and the members of the L.C. Sheriff’s Office hosted a visit from Alex Mann. Alex hails from Chester County and has a high functioning form of Autism. He has made it his mission to travel about Pennsylvania and New Jersey visiting Police and Sheriff agencies in support of Law Enforcement and to raise awareness for Autism.
In his spare time Alex volunteers with his local EMS Corps and teaches Autism Awareness at several Law Enforcement Academies.
The L.C. Sheriff’s Office was his 479th visit to a Law Enforcement agency in the past 5 years. Sheriff Hanna was honored to have Alex spend the day with us.

Each year in lieu of a “No Shave November” the Sheriff has instituted a “No Tie November”. Deputies who choose to participate give a set contribution and then designate a charity or charities to receive the donation.
This year’s charity is the Pediatric Cancer Foundation of the Lehigh Valley. Sheriff Hanna and Deputy Mike Manfredo and his family presented a check to PCFLV Executive Director Michelle Zenie and her staff.

Lt. Webb participated in a seminar hosted by State Rep. Ann Flood regarding the Second Amendment. The event took place at the Stockertown Rod and Gun Club and was well attended.
On January 2, 2024, Sheriff Hanna was sworn in for his 3rd term as Lehigh County Sheriff by the Honorable Douglas G. Reichley Judge of the Court of Common Pleas. In attendance was Sheriff Hanna's wife Randy Anne, friends, and his Command Staff. Sheriff Hanna extends his heartfelt gratitude to the citizens of Lehigh County for their faith in him.
Sheriff Hanna and the Lehigh County Sheriff’s Office remember and mourn the loss of Deputy Steven Armbruster whose End Of Watch is tomorrow 12/23/2021. Today, and throughout this weekend, a wreath is prominently displayed in the courthouse honoring the service and memory of Deputy Armbruster.
Sheriff Hanna and members of the Lehigh County Sheriffs Office joined the Lehigh Valley Labor Council, AFL-CIO with their annual toy drive, delivery parade on Friday December 15th. The caravan proceeded from UAW Local 677 on Mack Blvd to Roosevelt Elementary School. All toy collections benefit the students at Roosevelt Elementary.
On December 7th, the Lehigh County Sheriff's Office joined Whitehall Police Department in their 1st annual Shop with a Cop.
The Lehigh County Sheriff's Office clerical staff have once again displayed their artistic talents in their recreation of Santa and his reindeer.
On Friday, December 1 , 2023, members of the local chapter of B.A.C.K (Bikers Against Cop Killers) held a brief ceremony in honor of our fallen Deputies.

Before being elected to his current position, Sheriff Hanna spent over 34 years with the Allentown Police Department, retiring as Chief of Police. Continuing his unwavering support for the department, he and his wife Randy enjoyed a wonderful evening at the Allentown FOP Lodge #10 annual Policeman’s Ball. Last Evening, in conjunction with the Catasauqua Police Department, Deputy Rich Garner and K-9 Nevie attended the Trunk or Treat Event at the Catasauqua Park and Pool. There was a large Crowd of Parents and Children on hand at the Event.
Yesterday, Sheriff Joseph N. Hanna presented an Overview of the Lehigh County Sheriff’s Office to the Seniors at Lehigh Valley Active Life located at 1633 Elm Street in the City of Allentown.
The LCSO extends thanks to Nicos and Genny Elias of Nicos C. Elias Funeral Home for hosting their annual First Responder Appreciation luncheon on Thursday September 21st. The delicious food was catered by Stravino’s Italian Market.
This is one of many endeavors in which Nick and Genny partake as loyal community partners.

Sheriff Hanna and the Lehigh County Sheriff’s Office remember and mourn the loss of Deputy Scott Moyer whose End Of Watch is tomorrow 9/23/2009. Today, and throughout this weekend, a Wreath is prominently displayed in the Courthouse honoring the service and memory of Deputy Moyer.
Deputy Sheriff Scott Moyer suffered a fatal heart attack shortly after apprehending a man during a warrant service.
He began to experience symptoms of a heart attack and went home, where his condition worsened. He was transported to a local hospital where he passed away a short time later.
