Today was such a special day! The other day I received a call from Kristin McAfee (who does so much for folks in need in Forsyth County) that a mother with 6 kids moved to Cu***ng to live with her sister - and had no vehicle... The Children range from 3 to 10 years old, and her oldest could not live with her because she could not get him to school. Kristin sponsored the family for Christmas, and she said the kids are all amazing and the Mom is not the type to ask for help… The next day a good friend asked if I could help sell her Suburban… Hello?!!! Long story short – Christian Brothers home office wrote a check for the Suburban, we made some minor repairs, Lanier Forsyth Rotary Club donated $500 in gas cards, Eco Car Wash on Bethelview will detail it (as they do all the cars we give away) next week, and all the kids are now under one roof both at home and on the road. Mom is starting work tomorrow and will get there in her Suburban! God is good!! If you know of someone who has a good car that might need some repairs – please let us know. We have more single mothers in need. (FYI - the mother approved the use of her story and all these pictures to highlight the need for vehicles for single Moms in Forsyth County).

A Veteran in need receives a car!! Mark Clark, a fellow member of VetBuds (https://www.vetbuds.us) called and said he had a Vet in need at the Genesis House in Warner Robins. THE SAME DAY a friend of mine Jeff Fischer called and said his son would like to donate his car that had been sitting idle a few years as he was out of country and would be for some time (sometimes God works in not-so-mysterious ways!). The car would not start, so Jason, another member of VetBuds who owns Patriot Towing delivered it to us at no charge. We went through it completely and ended up replacing the driver’s window motor, the battery and MAP Sensor, all filters, replaced the fluids, cleaned the throttle body, and restored the headlights (~$1600). VetBuds covered half the cost of the repairs. Eco Car Wash on Bethelview Rd once again did an incredible job detailing it inside and out for free.
Lisa and Teddy drove it down to Warner Robins and delivered it to Deandria. She is a single mother of two who has had to Uber to work and to take her children anywhere. She was so appreciative and asked that we share her story and pictures to highlight that there are many Veterans in need across the country. Please consider Eco Car Wash on Bethelview Rd if you need your car washed and thank them for the incredible job they do for us on all cars we give away. I believe we gave away 14 cars last year and they did them all!

We had an amazing time last night at the shop hosting the Young Men's Service League for their monthly meeting. These fine young men learned all about basic car care, how to check fluids, how to change a tire on the side of the road - and lots more. It was a hands-on experience led by three of my awesome General Service Technicians - Will, Jackson and Nick. So many kids these days have no clue about the automobiles they drive - these boys are not part of that group!

I want to thank all the amazing sponsors and people in this community that made our eighth annual  Christian Brothers Automotive national Service day an incredible success! With their assistance, we provided folks in need with 32 Oil changes, 13 Brake jobs, 19 Tires, 14 Wipers, and for one young lady we replaced her water pump, radiator, thermostat, Ball joints, wheel bearing, tires, and performed on alignment. About $9000 worth of service and repairs in total. I cried many times during the day listening to stories from those who really appreciated  the assistance. One family told us that they walked from La Grange to get to Family Promise in Forsyth, and had to live in a tent for a month before that organization was able to take them in. Now the father has a job and they have housing and a vehicle and are well on the road to success. Our amazing vendors and sponsors were: Autozone in Cu***ng, Discount Tire on Market Place, Napa in Cu***ng, Parts Authority, Taylor lubricants, PGP, Funky mountain flowers, Starbucks on Bethelview, Chick-fil-a in Cu***ng, the Bounce house was free from Better Moonwalks of GA, Jacob Thompson provided lunch (available for catering small events), Midway United Methodist provided tables and Parkway Church the chairs. This community really pulled together to create a very special day. Christian Brothers employees volunteered their Saturday and we had spouses and their children help out as well as well. Thanks to everyone!

This is the replacement of front and rear evaporator cores in a Volvo XC-90. This is the type of work that a Master mechanic can do. Jason Rigby was just voted ASE master L1 technician of the year. For all of the United States. We are very fortunate to have him on board.

Our Community does it again to help a single father in desperate need! Damian is raising three daughters on his own, ages 11,10 and 3 years old – and he recently found himself homeless and without a vehicle. His first setback came just before Thanksgiving when the vehicle he had just purchased had to be towed to the dealership. It had a blown head gasket and the cost to repair was more than he could afford and more than the car was worth. Without transportation he had to use Lift and Uber. The stress of being a single parent took its toll when he missed too much time at work due to kids doctor’s appointments etc.. Then on Jan 13th his apartment in Roswell caught fire and the family lost all their possessions. Now he was without a car, a job or a place to live. Thankfully Tom Schuler and the folks at Perimeter Church took the family under their wing and put them up at a hotel. They helped him find full-time employment at an autism clinic for kids, and that clinic will work around his schedule. Then today, thanks to the generous donation of a vehicle to us from an individual who asked to remain anonymous, Damian has transportation. Donations raised by the Perimeter Church helped us to fund the repairs, as well as title and insurance and registration. We are so proud to partner with Perimeter Church to give Damian and his family a fresh start in life.
If you feel moved to do so, we could use some additional financial assistance. Johnny Grimes is a retired combat veteran with 4 tours in Iraq, who needs transportation. He co-founded Operation RallyPoint, an organization that has assisted over 7,000 vets in the seven years it has now existed, and he has never taken a paycheck. His 2002 Acura had to be scrapped and he has two fine boys to care for. We have a vehicle that was donated for Johnny, but it needs a transfer case and more work than I can afford to fund to bring it up to the level where we feel comfortable giving it to Mr. Vines. Another displaced family from Ukraine was blessed today! Vita and Vadim Lokhonia came from the Kyiv region. They have been married for almost 30 years and have two have 2 children and one granddaughter. Their daughter and son-in-law were allowed to come with them, but unfortunately their son was stopped at the border for no apparent reason and was not allowed to leave Ukraine. They arrived 3 weeks ago and spent all the money they had on tickets to the US. They are hopeful their son will be able to join them soon. Vadim has a job but as the family did not have a car it has been very difficult for him to get to work. Our neighbors Terry and Donna donated a Honda Accord which needed some work, and we made the repairs and gave the car to the family today. Once again, our friends at Eco Car Wash donated their time and did an amazing job detailing the car, and Randy’s Auto on Hwy 20 repaired the exhaust for free. When people come together, lives are changed! This is the first car for 2023 we have been able to bless a family with, and thanks to so many generous car donations and the Christian Brothers Foundation - we blessed 14 families with cars in 2022!! Another incredible story of kindness. Alex Gerasimov is an associate pastor for New Life Church and a Chaplain for the Forsyth County Sheriff's office. He and his family immigrated to the US in 1998 from Ukraine, and he and the Church have worked to sponsor a family which lost everything in the war. Eugine, Tataina and their daughter Masha came to the US with two suitcases and a lot of faith as they their home and town had been destroyed. Alex and his wife Sveta took them family into their home, worked with them to secure all the paperwork required to immigrate and be able to work, and ensure Masha will be able to get professional medical help to overcome her developmental challenges. Eugine is ready to go to work but he had no transportation. Alex brought a vehicle to us at Christian Brothers that needed a few thousand dollars worth of work, which they could not afford to do. Our CBA foundation provided the funds and we gave the car back to Alex and Eugine Wed night. Eugine is now well on his way to creating a stable, independent life for his family, a family that could not see any path forward only a few weeks ago. I was very touched when Eugine took the patch off his jacket and gave it to me as a sign of gratitude. Way to go New Life Church and the Gerasimov family for their incredible kindness!

Wed night at my VFW meeting I was told there is a Marine Combat Veteran here in Cu***ng who served in OEF and is in need of a car to get to work and to his VA medical appointments. During COVID-19 he became homeless. He became ill, wasn't able to work and had to sell all his possessions in order to survive. He has worked two jobs over the past year to now get his own apartment but he is in dire need of a vehicle. He currently has to get rides to work or walk to job sites which can be a couple of miles from his apt.
