"Girl...where have you been?" Working hard to create an amazing space for BIPOC birthing families, where we can create community,be educated, and THRIVE.
I'm so excited to be able to share what we have in store soon.

Representation matters. When you have someone who has walked in the same size shoes 👠 as you,can speak your language (without asking what you mean)...it just hits different.

In ,CA...HERstory,Inc is a pregnancy/postpartum Dream Team. What we plan to do in OC has never been done with the BIPOC population in mind. We are changing that. I'm so proud to be able to do this work. In order to do that,we need support. Share. Donate. Buy a tshirt, maybe a bag. Follow.

Today is the first day of Women's History month! Today I choose to celebrate "The Grandmothers of Gynecology " Anarcha,Betsey, and Lucy.

These enslaved women received several gynecological surgeries from J Marion Sims without anesthesia and without consent. He is known as the "Grandfather of Modern Gynecology " because of the procedures developed dissecting the bodies of these women. There are statues dedicated to him in medical schools across the country...but none dedicated to his victims...until now

September 27,2021 a monument dedicated to these amazing souls was unveiled in Montgomery,AL.

It's time they receive the honor they deserve.

This picture gives me so much life!

I live in Orange County California. When I was pregnant with my daughter there was only one black lactation consultant, In a county of around 3.2 million people. Nearly 5 years later that number is still the same.

Trust me… I am working hard to change that. With the launch of , not only will we be able to change breast/chest feeding outcomes but also birth outcomes in our county as well. I'm truly excited the plans we've made. We plan to shake things up a bit.

HERstory,Inc is made up of a Doula, Pediatric Nurse Practitioner/Lactation Consultant, Women's Health Nurse Practitioner/Midwife, Social Worker, Therapist, Nurse Case manager...all BIPOC Women living in OC, ready for a change.

Let’s talk about 𝐬𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐬…what does that look like?

🔑 Help take care of your baby. You can bathe, change, dress, cuddle, and burp your baby. You can also keep your partner company during feedings and make sure that she has plenty to eat and drink.

🔑Watch for hunger cues. Learn your baby's hunger cues so that you can bring your baby to your partner for nursing sessions.

🔑Limit visitors. New moms need plenty of rest! Help limit the number of visitors that come to your home. If you are vaccinated, make sure your guests are too. Make them wear a mask.

🔑Go the extra mile. Help around the house. Run errands, cook, clean, and do laundry. If mom needs something while she's breastfeeding, offer to get it for her. If you have other children, take care of them so your partner can focus on breastfeeding.

🔑Offer encouragement. Help your partner feel good about herself. Tell her you're proud of her and that she's doing a great job. Try to do something special for her. Maybe order her favorite Starbucks drink.

🔑Defend your choice. Not everyone will understand you and your partner's decision to breastfeed. You can be the first line of defense against negative comments and anyone who tries to discourage your partner from breastfeeding.

Support partners don’t always look like this and that's 𝗢𝗞. Do what works your household. The main key is support. One thing that helped me so much were the breastfeeding Facebook groups I was in. Breastfeeding Support for Black Moms, and Black Moms Breastfeeding Uncensored.

What does your support system look like?

This video is infuriating. Too many Pediatricians have no lactation training at all. Following a Lactation Consultant around during rounds for a few hours does not count.

What she is telling this Mom is completely FALSE! According to WHO(World Health Organization)

"From the age of 6 months, children should begin eating safe and adequate complementary foods while continuing to breastfeed for up to 2 years and beyond"

This is why it's so important to interview your child's Pediatrician prior to then taking over their care. Make sure your breast/chest feeding ideals align with theirs. If not...they're not the one. It is completely OK to fire your child's doctor or any doctor for that matter. Ok...I'm done with my rant now.

PS stayed tuned for some new things happening!
*Pregnant? Plan to give your baby breastmilk...let's talk!❤️

I've always wondered why people feel so compelled to tell you what to do with your boobs🧐

Our breastfeeding journey last for 2 strong 💪🏾 years. My plan was a year, but sis had other plans🤣 I used to hear all these comments..."Isn't she too old?" Nope. "Doesn't she eat real food?" Yep...with a little breastmilk on the side.

We weaned at 25 months, because I felt like the walking dead. As an RN, I work 12 hour shifts, and Nadira was dream feeding every 3 hours at night like a newborn. Tired...is an understatement. I was literally afraid that I was going to crash on my way to work or overdose a patient. Neither one of those were getting enough sleep,so I did what I had to do.

Anyone ever ask you these crazy questions?

PS...how we weaned is a whole story in itself

11/30/2021

Breastfeeding my daughter made me feel so powerful. I would just sit there and think...like what my body is producing is literally sustaining her life!🤯💪🏾

That feeling helped me push through on those days when I was all touched out, on those days when I was completely over it and just felt like a cow. It's perfectly ok to feel those feelings and still be in love with your baby. It doesn't have to be one or the other. Mom guilt will have you thinking you're a horrible Mom,because you want a break. Just wanted to send you a reminder sis...You're killing it. 💪🏾💪🏼💪🏿

Moms…Why do we feel guilty when we do anything for ourselves? Maybe Patriarchal BS that we’ve been conditioned to feel bad when we need respite?🤷🏾‍♀️ Either way….

It’s ok to feel however you feel about motherhood today. Whether you want a break, miss your old life,or are struggling. Embrace where you are. Be kind to yourself.

Reach out to your village. If you don’t have one, create one. Find an online community of Moms who get you.

10/21/2021

Just a little real life comedy🤣

I’ve never been sure why people are so obsessed with how long you feed your baby from your body🤦🏾‍♀️🤷🏾‍♀️

We breastfed for 2 years and I’m proud of that. Even if we chose to still breastfeed now…like Auntie Tab says…that’s my business.

Don’t ever let anyone shame you for how you feed your baby,or for however long.

*Check out my new postpartum package I’m offering. Later Breasties!

Free Breast Feeding Class at the link in my bio 👆🏽with Magical Black lactation counselor
One thing that makes me so excited about becoming a mama is feeding my baby from my once itty bitty ti***es that quickly grew into juicy melons 🍈 🍈to prepare to nourish my little one. The female body is so dope that it literally creates the perfect chemicals and nutrients for our offspring, our bodies adapt in incredible ways.
I know breast feeding isn’t for or natural for everyone but I want to give it a try and with the right support system, dedication + nurturing I feel I can do it for my goal of 1 year. My pregnancy has been filled with education mixed with intuition. My intuition led me to work with a black lactation counselor to get me ready to feed my baby… Black maternal Health professionals just hit different
In our free session with she will share tips and tools specifically for black mommas 🙏🏾 , single moms and just overall unconventional moms ❤️ her course empowered me so much that I want to offer the luxury of knowledge I had to other moms / expecting moms for Free, link in my bio to Join.

AMEN’RA IS HOME! So many of us followed this terrible story from ’s account of their son being medically kidnapped. Their story went viral on the internet, national news covered it, and it still took over 6 months for them to be reunited with their son, while in the same moments, briefly losing custody of their daughter. While we celebrate this reunion, Syesha and Tie’s story put a spotlight on the many issues of CPS and other families that have been targeted without proper justice, under the guise and protection of the legal system. Please keep praying and fighting for these other families. Please keep praying for Syesha’s family. Small victories in a much bigger war against our children.

We are praying for all of you.

• Happy Black Breastfeeding Week!

:

A reminder of the WHY behind this necessary initiative....

If you havent/hadn’t heard of or understood this WHY - we’d love to hear what you have taken away so far from this week

The disparages regarding breastfeeding, even ante/post-partum care and mental health in the black community are not a “back then” issue, they also arent issues that solely plague third world countries

This problem exists right here at home.
The facts are valid.
The resources and studies are readily available and are also public information.

We challenge anyone who is lost on the initiative or has questions pertaining the initiative to continue to ask questions (with also the openness to recieve answers); and to also take time to seek knowledge yourselves by sifting through the MANY studies, educational tools and resources that have been shared all over this entire week.

We have over 100 virtual events being hosted this week by various agencies, organizations, birthcenters, WIC programs and fellow lactation workers also incorporating the experiences of breast/chest/donor milk feeders. Check a few out to couple with your research; we know you’ll walk away with more understanding and perhaps a different perspective.

Asking questions is the first step.
Taking time to ingest and understand the information is the very important second step.

We have many links circulating our FB and Twitter platforms and being shared with our hashtags here on Instagram.

This sweet baby and now his younger sibling, just days old, have been forcibly removed “medically kidnapped” from their parents Syesha]. Words can’t even express the hurt I feel for this family. They are asking for help to get their children back. There was no reason for them to be taken. Overzealous hospital workers need to be held accountable for their horrific actions. Please follow her page for videos, updates and ways to help. Repost Syesha]. See some of her story below
・・・
Our Sun was Medically Kidnapped just days after he was weaned from my breast. I never went more than two hours without my baby boy and we never left him in the care of strangers, but on March 11th we were forcefully removed from our SUNshine and banned from the hospital Permanently by CPI Officer Danielle McCoy of Manatee County along with other armed police officers.

We were forced to leave our baby behind with strangers at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital in St. Petersburg, FL. Manatee County Sheriff’s department claimed, on Fox 13 News Amen’Ra was first placed in a Medical Foster home, however he NEVER was. He was placed in a regular foster. We have PROOF where he went when he was discharged, which by the way they didn’t even notify us when he was discharged.

We called the hospital everyday and there were days they could not locate our sun.

He was placed in a regular foster home with a white family, bypassing our qualified relative placement, ripping our sun of his culture and the stable and loving environment and world he knew and loved.

CPI Officer Danielle McCoy told us the reason for the removal was because we refused a B12 shot, which we didn’t. Listen to the recording of this removal on this page.

A false petition and medical report by MD Sally Smith has torn our family apart and created unnecessary trauma.

I went to the hospital for assistance during my sun’s weaning process of extended breast feeding to more solids and the bottle. They turned an innocent transition that all breast feeding mama’s go through into a dependency case they documented as medical neglect claiming I abused and neglected the most precious creation of my life.
