I’ve been a little MIA on here lately, but I finally have exciting news! I’m now an Esthetician at Skin Body Soul in Ankeny! We are a med spa that offers services such as hydrafacials, microneedling, laser hair removal, and so many other cool services. Since I started school at PCI, I researched so many spas in the area. This spa stuck out to me and since then I knew I wanted to work here. Recently everything just fell into place and I’m so excited to start my career here! ✨♥️

1. It’s easier to grow out your hair while you’re wearing long pants and sweatshirts, because let’s face it, none of us are shaving our legs everyday right now anyways! (your hair needs to be about the length of a grain of rice to wax the first time!)
2. Your hair grows in 3 different stages, so the first or second time getting waxed you may not be perfectly smooth the next day, because right underneath the hair we just pulled out, another one may be ready to make its appearance. It can take about 2- 3 months to get all of your hair on the same schedule.
3. During the winter, your skin gets a much needed break from sun exposure, and chemicals such as chlorine. Your skin can recover easier during this downtime.
4. Regular waxing will weaken your hair follicle, making your hair grow back slower and thinner!
5. Waxing is also a great way to exfoliate dead skin cells, which is important in the dry winter months!

One of the hardest parts of my job is to convince my clients to buy professional skincare products.

“What I get from Walmart is good enough!”
“It’s too expensive.”
“I used the new products for a few days and my face broke out, it must mean it’s not working for me.”

❗️ Products from stores like Walmart are mostly water, contain unhealthy superficial preservatives, and typically don’t contain enough active ingredients to see a beneficial change in your skin.
❗️Yes, the products I suggest will be on average $50 which is more expensive than the $10 cleanser you’re buying, but it’s for good reason. The professional products contain less, if any, preservatives (and will typically be natural) because they’re produced in smaller batches, meaning the product will be “fresher”, and not be sitting in a warehouse or on a shelf for who knows how long. The quality of ingredients is much much higher, and the consistency of product quality will always be the same. Also, if used correctly, you should only have to buy the $50 cleanser 2 or 3 times a year.
❗️YOUR SKIN IS PURGING, IT MEANS IT’S WORKING. When you switch skincare products, especially when you switch to products they are actually benefitting your skin, you may notice what looks like “breakouts.” What’s happening is your skin is basically detoxifying all of the dirt, oil, and bad stuff that’s in your skin and bringing it all to the surface to eventually get rid of it. When I started using Bioelements products, my skin was red and full of little bumps for about 3 weeks. After using the products daily for 2 months now my skin is clear and glowing! Purging typically lasts 4-6 weeks, so trust the process and stick with it!

Estheticians’ jobs are not to make money off of you from retail. You need products based on your skin type, and at home skincare is essential! You cannot come in for a facial once a month, go home and use bad quality products, and expect to see a change in your skin. Our job is to recommend products that we know will help you! Although I’m technically not working as a licensed esthetician YET, I will be soon, and helping people feel confident in their skin is what I’m so so so excited to do....so buy the dang products I tell you to buy. 😇😘
I also want to say I get it! I get it’s hard to drop $100 or more on just something to clean your face with, but I promise your skin, and future self will thank you!

The first step is to use the Sensitive Skin Cleansing Oil. I love this because it acts as a makeup remover & a cleanser! The second step is the Soothing Reset Mist. This is the toner and it smells so light and fresh and makes my face feel cool and refreshed. I used to think using a toner was pointless, but it’s actually very essential to your skincare!
