Planting certified organic seed is very important and makes a big difference in our world.
Wise words quoted below from - thanks to you and the team for helping so many growers and for advancing certified organic seed production on such a scale.
“…growing something to eat or something beautiful to share with someone, there’s a lot in that act; there’s a whole universe of healing, connection, care, witnessing, growth, and abundance. It requires you to slow down and listen. My invitation is for people to slow down enough to notice what they are doing and feeling. To let in the beauty of this world and share it with each other.” - Tom Stearns founder of High Mowing Seeds

What is going on at the Farm:
We are in the second half of Spring now.
The weather is moving in the right direction. The days are getting a bit longer, a bit sunnier, and a bit warmer. The nights are not dipping as low and cold as they were. Many of the crops that we have already planted have been growing very slowly in April, and are starting to show more normal growth now.
All early spring planting is completed.
We are preparing the beds for the warm weather crops, this includes hand hoeing, weeding, amending with organic inputs, and creating furrows that the transplants and seeds will be planted into.
We will begin planting warm weather crops the week of May 22nd. This will include tomatoes, peppers, tomatillos, summer squash, cucumbers, basils, amaranth greens, okra, beans,

Here is a bit about what is going on at the Farm:
The spring planting of onions is about 80% completed. The last of it will be planted this coming week. Green onions will begin in late May, followed by k**b onions with greens in June, and bulb onions in July and throughout the remainder of the season.
The potatoes are all planted. They should begin to be harvestable in July and August.
The garlic crop is looking very happy and healthy. We will begin to harvest green garlic in May, then garlic scapes in June, and bulbs in July.
We have completed the direct-seeding of all spring crops, including carrots, cilantro, parsley, bok choy, tat soi, baby kales, turnips, and radishes.
Lettuces, collards, and kale are all transplanted and under row cover.
Rainbow chard and more lettuces will be transplanted in another couple weeks.
The next group of plantings will be warm weather loving items.
The thyme plants are waking up from their winter sleep, along with the echinacea, and mullein. The lavender plants are still taking their time, as is the oregano and lemon balm.
We haven’t seen asparagus emerge yet, but are expecting this to be a great year for it.
For folks that haven’t signed up and are still considering – what can we say to help you make the choice to sign up? We are planning for this season to be our best yet in many ways. We also offer payment plan options for those that would benefit from it.
There is lots of good info on our website - link is in the bio.

Oh - we have some other exciting and fun stuff in the works too, more to share soon!
Mother Nature always amazes. Some photos from the farm from Thursday morning.
We are thankful for the cold and snow because we are in Michigan and this is what the winter season brings in this place on the planet.
Yes, we lost power on Wednesday at 7 in the evening and it has not yet been restored yet. The update says we will have power tomorrow.
Our thoughts are with all who are affected by this power outage - we know this is a real disaster for many households and businesses.
We look to our local government and utility providers to do better and make real improvements to prevent this from recurring on such a large scale. It does seem that outages have been more frequent and for a longer duration with each passing year…
Sending out warm and healing vibes to all!
We gather in unity with people all over the world in honor and tribute to the great leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
We feel a personal appreciation and respect for Dr. King; as it was many of his teachings that helped shape the worldview that is integral to our mission as a farm and members of the community.
We are thankful to be able to enjoy our organic potatoes from storage during these cold winter days.
