Broke all the rules of archival storage when I stuffed these soft sculptures into in a bin ten years ago (they almost look more interesting now, swipe to see them installed in January 2011). So much of my early sculptural work was sadly not eco-friendly (it was not discussed while I was studying – I hope it is now). In addition to these pieces, I also unearthed glasswork, and sugar coated paper sculpture, and found/reclaimed/recycled pieces. I’ve yet to open a giant box filled with a huge EPS foam multi-piece work from 2006, but it’s up against the wall in here and at least fulfilling its primary function as a building material: insulation.
I’m in need of a photographer with art documentation experience (and willing to travel to my north-central Wisconsin studio). Any recommendations are appreciated!

juice painting with August / instructions below

To do at home, gather: juice (we like pomegranate, blackberry and beet - fresh or store bought, blends are good too, try what you’ve got), water, old jars/containers old brushes, old sheet/towel
Note: These are obviously not archival, but are beautiful and fade over time. If using fresh juice, dilute with water, or it can dry slightly sticky.

I find my momentum in the process, rather than the outcome. And also, in less phone time.I read in a recent issue of Psychology Today that Larry Rosen, author of The Distracted Brain, found that “young adult students can maintain focus on important work for only two to four minutes on average before checking emails, texts, and social media (older adults are not much better) — and it can take up to 20 minutes to get back on task.” How do you stay focused amidst all the distraction?

At ’s BIG, in front of Sam Gilliam’s 1970 work, Carousel which is 75 feet (!) of draped canvas. August couldn’t decide which piece to look at and tried to run to them all at once.

You can always tell how well it’s going by how much I focus the photo on the palette, rather than the painting. See all the palette here? Yep.
I pulled a bunch of old (ugly, semi-embarrassing) work off stretchers last week, which was cathartic in and of itself. now I get to gesso these itty bitty canvases I stretched yesterday. def a win-win.
in progress again, after letting it sit for a few months
